§ 01Overview

What the DH-IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-ANZ-S2 is

The DH-IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-ANZ-S2 is the current-generation TiOC — the 8MP turret behind our 4, 6 and 8 camera deterrence kits, and the camera the channel calls TiOC 3.0. Where a normal camera records an intruder, this one reacts: cross a tripwire and it flashes red and blue lights, plays a siren or voice warning through its speaker, switches its warm light on and records the whole event in 4K full colour. Dual mics and the speaker give real two-way talk from the DMSS app.

The numbers behind it: an F1.0 lens rated to 0.004 lux in colour, 30 metres of infrared plus 30 metres of warm light, and a 106° view that identifies faces to about 6.6 metres — doorway and porch distance. SMD 4.0 with AI SSA keeps alerts to humans and vehicles, and the camera supports AcuPick search on compatible Dahua recorders. The honest limit: 6.6 metres is close-quarters work — a long approach or a distant gate wants the motorised vari-focal version instead.

Most buyers run it from a Dahua AI NVR over PoE — one Ethernet run carries power, video and every deterrence feature (10.1W with everything firing). The metal IP67 housing is rated from -40°C to +60°C with ±30% voltage tolerance. Use the bundle builder on this page to pair it with an NVR and hard drive, or start from one of the pre-built kits below.

What the DH-IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-ANZ-S2 features actually look like

Representative illustrations of how each key feature performs in a real scene.

8MP Ultra HD

8MP (4K) resolution captures four times the detail of 1080p.
Even when a person or car is far down the driveway, you can zoom in and still recognise a face or read a number plate — detail that lower-resolution cameras lose.

30m IR Night Vision

Built-in infrared lets the camera see in complete darkness up to around 30m — enough for a typical driveway, front yard or entrance. People and vehicles stay clear in black-and-white, brighter the closer they are.

Dual-Light Night Vision

Combines infrared with a warm spotlight so it can light a scene in colour at night rather than relying on black-and-white alone — clearer, more useful footage when there's something to see.

Full Color Night Vision

Unlike plain black-and-white night vision, this camera can capture colour after dark — so you can pick out the actual colour of a car, a jacket or a bag, detail that grey infrared footage loses.

False Alarm Reduction

Filtering helps separate real activity from harmless movement like rain, leaves or pets, so you get fewer pointless notifications and the alerts that matter stand out.

Human/Vehicle Detection

Smart detection focuses on people and vehicles and can ignore things like swaying branches, rain or small animals — helping cut down false alerts and making the right moments easier to find.

IP67 Weatherproof

Sealed against dust and water to IP67, built to keep working through rain, storms and harsh sun — suitable for fully outdoor mounting.

Two-Way Audio

Talk and listen in real time through the app — tell a courier where to leave a parcel, or speak to someone at the gate, whether you're home or away.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DH-IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-ANZ-S2

Deterrence that intervenes, not just records

Most CCTV hands you footage of someone who already left. When a tripwire or intrusion zone is crossed, this camera flashes red and blue lights, plays a siren or voice warning through its speaker, and lights the scene so the event records in 4K full colour.

4K evidence with F1.0 light-gathering

Eight million pixels usually cost you night performance — the F1.0 lens claws it back, rating 0.004 lux in colour. After an incident you zoom into the recording and a face or a parked car stays readable.

Talk, listen and stand down from your phone

Dual mics and a speaker give genuine two-way talk in the DMSS app, and one-tap disarming pauses lights and sirens when the visitors are expected — no ladder required.

Loud on purpose — make sure that suits the spot

Strobes and siren voices confront whoever triggers them. On a tight terrace street or strata block that can be more response than you want — draw zones to your own boundary, or pick the quieter 3867 WizSense turret where evidence is enough.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Porch and parcel deliveries

Faces identify to 6.6 metres — doorway distance — and after dark the warm light captures them in colour, not grey infrared. Two-way talk lets you direct a courier or challenge a stranger from your phone.

Driveway and carport

Someone lingering around the car at 2am gets lights and a voice warning before a door handle is touched — and the 4K event recording holds enough detail to zoom in afterwards.

Side gate and rear access

A tripwire across the gate line triggers the camera the moment it's crossed. The 106° view watches the whole passage from one under-eave mount.

Shopfront after hours

A voice warning at the door buys time before anyone forces entry, and the dual mics add audio to the evidence — check your state's recording rules before enabling audio.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

What's in the box

1 x DH-IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-ANZ-S2 camera, power connector and quick-start guide. The 2.8 mm lens is standard.

02

Power and cable

One Cat5e/Cat6 run to any 802.3af PoE port on your NVR or switch, up to 100 m — 5.8 W typical, 10.1 W with the lights and speaker running. A separate 12 V DC adapter is only needed without PoE.

03

Mounting

Solid wall, ceiling or eave at 2.5-3 m — out of reach, but low enough that the warm light still shows faces in colour. The optional PFA137 junction box keeps the connection weatherproof and makes future swaps a 2-minute job.

04

Avoid night reflections

Don't aim it along a close wall or at glass — the IR and warm light can bounce back and wash out the image. Angle slightly away from reflective surfaces.

05

Do you need a sparkie?

Usually not. PoE means one data cable carries power, video, lights and siren, and you are not touching 240 V. Get a licensed electrician if the run goes through walls or roof space.

06

App setup and zones

Download DMSS, scan the device QR code and enable push notifications — keep the one-tap disarm switch handy for expected visitors. Then draw tripwire and intrusion zones tight to your own property: zones are what fire the lights and siren, so keep footpaths and the neighbour's driveway out of them.

§ 08Questions

Frequently asked about the DH-IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-ANZ-S2

Q.01

How do the deterrence features actually work?

When someone crosses a tripwire or enters an intrusion zone you've drawn, the camera reacts on the spot: the red and blue lights flash, the built-in speaker plays a siren or voice warning, and the warm light switches on so the whole event records in full colour. It ships with multiple warning voices and supports importing your own recordings.
Q.02

Can I turn the lights and siren off when I don't want them?

Yes — one-tap disarming in the DMSS app pauses all event linkage while you're expecting visitors, the web interface schedules deterrence by time of day or sets light-only with no sound, and there's a wired arm/disarm option through the alarm input for integrators.
Q.03

Will the siren and strobes annoy my neighbours?

They can if zones are drawn carelessly — this is a camera that reacts out loud. Draw tripwires and intrusion zones tight to your own property so footpath traffic never triggers them, schedule sound off overnight, or run light-only mode. If the camera would face a shared driveway or a tight terrace street, the quieter 3867 WizSense turret records the same AI events without the theatrics.
Q.04

How far can it see at night?

The F1.0 lens records colour down to 0.004 lux. In full darkness the infrared illuminator covers 30 metres; when a person or vehicle is detected, the 30-metre warm light takes over and the event records in 4K full colour.
Q.05

What does the 2.8mm lens cover?

106° horizontal and 55° vertical — wide enough to take in a porch, garage front or driveway from one corner mount. Faces are identifiable to about 6.6 metres. It's a close-quarters camera: a long front approach or a distant gate wants the motorised vari-focal version instead.
Q.06

What is AcuPick and what do I need to use it?

AcuPick is Dahua's newest search: pick a person or vehicle in playback and the recorder matches them across every camera and timeline in seconds. It needs an AcuPick-capable Dahua recorder — on the AI NVRs in our kits you get SMD 4.0 classification and Quick Pick search, which still pulls every human or vehicle event from a day of footage in one pass.
Q.07

Which NVR do I need for this camera?

Any current Dahua PoE NVR records it. SMD classification, Quick Pick search and full event linkage want an AI model such as the DHI-NVR4104HS-P-AI/ANZ or DHI-NVR4108HS-8P-AI/ANZ used in our kits.
Q.08

How many channels and what size hard drive do I need?

Count your cameras and leave room to grow: up to 4 suit a 4CH NVR, up to 8 an 8CH. Each 8MP camera writes roughly 60GB a day recording continuously, so a 4TB drive holds about 2 weeks from four cameras — motion-only recording stretches that to a month or more.
Q.09

Will it work with a non-Dahua NVR?

Yes — it is ONVIF conformant (Profile S, G and T). You keep video and basic motion events; SMD classification and the light-and-siren event linkage need a Dahua AI NVR.
Q.10

Is PoE enough to run the lights and the siren?

Yes. A single 802.3af PoE line powers everything — 5.8W in normal operation and 10.1W flat out with the warning light, warm light and speaker all running. A separate 12V DC supply is only needed where no PoE port is available.
Q.11

Can I use this camera without an NVR?

You can — it takes a MicroSD card up to 256GB (not included), streams to the DMSS app, and the deterrence features work stand-alone. Most buyers still pair it with an NVR for longer retention and AI search; treat the SD slot as backup.
Q.12

Can I talk through the camera from my phone?

Yes — dual built-in microphones and a speaker give genuine two-way talk through the DMSS app: hear what's happening and speak to whoever is there, live.
Q.13

Is a Dahua camera safe to use in Australia?

Dahua equipment was removed from federal government sites in 2023 as a precaution, and there is no restriction on private or business use. This camera does not need a cloud account: it records to your NVR, works fully offline, and supports HTTPS and firmware encryption. If you want zero outbound traffic, put the system on an isolated network — it still records locally.
Q.14

Which 3849 turret should I buy?

Four turrets share the red and blue lights and siren voices. The HDW3849 S2 is the current TiOC 3.0 pick — 0.004 lux F1.0 colour, SMD 4.0 and AcuPick support — and it powers our 4, 6 and 8 camera kits. The PRO is the night specialist: colour rated to 0.0008 lux, five times less light needed than the S2. The ZAS adds a motorised 2.7–13.5mm zoom and 50m infrared for gates and long driveways. The S3 black is the previous generation — same lights and siren on older SMD 3.0 AI, without AcuPick or two-way talk.
Q.15

How does it compare with the 3649 and the 3867?

The 3649 is the 6MP TiOC 2.0 — the same red and blue lights and siren at a lower price, with the family's best low-light rating (0.003 lux) but less resolution to zoom into. The 3867 is the quiet alternative: the same 4K detail with no lights or sirens. This camera is the pick when you want both the 4K evidence and the confrontation.
Q.16

Does it come in black?

Yes — the black version is identical inside: same sensor, same deterrence, same warranty. Pick by the colour of the eave or fascia it mounts on.
Q.17

What warranty coverage applies in Australia?

The camera includes a 3-year warranty covering defects. Installation labour is not covered.
