§ 01Overview

What the DHI-NVR4216-16P-AI/ANZ is

The Dahua DHI-NVR4216-16P-AI/ANZ is a 16-channel WizSense recorder for larger homes and small-to-medium business sites that need a higher camera count from one unit. Its sixteen built-in PoE ports power and connect cameras over single cables, so a full sixteen-camera system runs without a separate switch, and it records cameras up to 16MP with 256 Mbps of incoming bandwidth.

It runs Dahua's recorder-side AI — SMD Plus for people and vehicle filtering, face detection and recognition, and perimeter protection — and Quick Pick smart search to find a person or vehicle across recordings quickly. It outputs 4K over HDMI with a 1080p VGA feed and records efficiently with Smart H.265+.

Two practical notes: it has two SATA bays (up to 16TB each) and is supplied without drives, so add surveillance storage to suit your retention; and the sixteen PoE ports share a 130 W budget (25.5 W per port), which covers a full set of typical cameras but can be tight if every camera is a high-draw model running its light at night — spread the load or use an injector for the heaviest. It is genuine Australian Dahua stock with local warranty and support, viewed remotely on the free DMSS app.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DHI-NVR4216-16P-AI/ANZ

Sixteen cameras built in

Sixteen PoE ports power and connect a full camera set over single cables, so a large system runs from one unit with no separate switch.

Recorder-side AI and fast search

SMD Plus, face detection and perimeter protection run on the NVR, and Quick Pick jumps you to matching people or vehicles in the footage.

Two bays for real retention

Two SATA bays up to 16TB each let you fit substantial storage for sixteen channels and the retention a busy site needs.

4K and efficient recording

4K HDMI output and Smart H.265+ give sharp footage while keeping storage and bandwidth in check.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Larger homes and acreage

Cover the house, sheds, gates and yard with up to sixteen cameras on a single recorder.

Small to medium business

Run cameras across entries, floors, car parks and stock areas without adding a network switch.

Multi-area sites

Bring sixteen cameras across nearby buildings back to one recorder over PoE cabling.

Staged rollouts

Start with a handful of cameras and grow to sixteen channels over time, adding drives as the system expands.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

What's in the box

One DHI-NVR4216-16P-AI/ANZ recorder, power lead and mouse. Hard drives, cameras, network cable and a monitor are not included — add at least one surveillance drive before use.

02

Installation requirements

Fit one or two surveillance-grade SATA drives (up to 16TB each), run Cat5e or Cat6 from the PoE ports to each camera (within about 100 m), connect the NVR to a monitor by HDMI and to your router for remote access, then add it to DMSS. For high-draw cameras, check the 130 W PoE budget and use an injector where needed.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DHI-NVR4216-16P-AI/ANZ

Q.01

Does the NVR4216-16P include hard drives?

No. It is supplied without drives so you can size storage to your system. It has two SATA bays, each taking a surveillance-grade drive up to 16TB, so fit at least one drive before you expect it to record.
Q.02

How many cameras can it run?

It is a 16-channel recorder with sixteen built-in PoE ports, so it powers and connects up to sixteen IP cameras directly over one cable each, with no separate switch needed.
Q.03

Will the 130 W PoE budget power sixteen cameras?

The 130 W total is shared across all sixteen ports, with up to 25.5 W on any one port. That suits typical Dahua cameras at around 5 to 9 W each. It can be tight if every camera is a high-draw dual-light or motorised model running its light at night, so spread the load or power the heaviest cameras from a separate injector.
Q.04

What camera resolution does it support?

It records IP cameras up to 16MP and outputs to a monitor at up to 4K over HDMI, with a simultaneous 1080p VGA output for a second screen.
Q.05

How is this different from the Pro NVR5216-16P?

This NVR4216 is the Lite series: sixteen channels, up to 16MP and 256 Mbps bandwidth with Quick Pick. The NVR5216-16P is the Pro series with higher 384 Mbps bandwidth, support for cameras up to 32MP and more recorder-side AI channels. Choose this model for a value sixteen-camera system, or the Pro series for higher resolution and heavier AI use.
Q.06

Can it tell people and vehicles apart?

Yes. It runs SMD Plus on the recorder to classify movement as a person or vehicle on up to four channels, with face detection and recognition and perimeter protection, so key channels raise fewer false alerts.
Q.07

Can I view it on my phone?

Yes. Connect the NVR to your router and add it to the free Dahua DMSS app to watch live and play back recordings from a phone or tablet, at home or away.
Q.08

Will it work with non-Dahua cameras?

It is built for Dahua and ONVIF IP cameras. Dahua cameras give full plug-and-play and recorder-side AI, while many third-party ONVIF cameras will connect for recording, though some smart features may not be available.
