§ 01Overview

What the DHI-NVR5216-16P-AI/ANZ is

The Dahua DHI-NVR5216-16P-AI/ANZ is the Pro-series step up from the Lite NVR4216, built for sites that want higher resolution, more bandwidth and heavier AI use on sixteen channels. Its sixteen built-in PoE ports power and connect cameras over single cables, and it records cameras up to 32MP — double the resolution ceiling of the Lite series — with 384 Mbps of incoming bandwidth.

On board it runs Dahua's recorder-side WizSense AI: face detection and recognition on two channels, perimeter protection on four channels and SMD Plus on eight channels, with support for rich camera-side analytics such as video metadata, ANPR, people counting and stereo analysis when paired with capable WizSense cameras. Enabling AI reduces usable bandwidth to around 200 Mbps, so plan camera count and bitrates for the mode you run. It outputs 4K over HDMI with a VGA feed and records with Smart H.265+.

It has two SATA bays (up to 16TB each) and is supplied without drives, so add surveillance storage to suit your retention. The sixteen PoE ports share a 130 W budget (25.5 W per port, with ePoE for long runs).

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DHI-NVR5216-16P-AI/ANZ

Pro-grade resolution and bandwidth

Support for cameras up to 32MP and 384 Mbps of bandwidth give the headroom that high-megapixel systems need beyond the Lite series.

Sixteen PoE ports built in

Run up to sixteen cameras straight from the recorder over single cables, with ePoE for longer runs and no separate switch.

Stronger recorder-side AI

More channels of face, perimeter and SMD Plus analytics let you apply smart filtering across more of the system.

Size your own storage

Two SATA bays up to 16TB each let you fit exactly the retention your system needs.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Detailed business systems

Run high-megapixel cameras over entries, floors and car parks where image detail matters for evidence.

Sites using camera analytics

Pair with WizSense cameras for metadata, ANPR or people counting alongside recorder-side filtering.

Larger homes and estates

Cover a big property with up to sixteen high-resolution cameras on one Pro recorder.

Upgrades from a Lite NVR

Move a growing system to higher resolution and more AI without changing the sixteen-channel footprint.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

What's in the box

One DHI-NVR5216-16P-AI/ANZ recorder, power lead and mouse. Hard drives, cameras, network cable and a monitor are not included — add at least one surveillance drive before use.

02

Installation requirements

Fit one or two surveillance-grade SATA drives (up to 16TB each), run Cat5e or Cat6 from the PoE ports to each camera (ePoE allows longer runs), connect the NVR to a monitor by HDMI and to your router for remote access, then add it to DMSS. Plan camera bitrates against the AI-on bandwidth limit and check the 130 W PoE budget for high-draw cameras.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DHI-NVR5216-16P-AI/ANZ

Q.01

Does the NVR5216-16P include hard drives?

No. It is supplied without drives so you can size storage to your system. It has two SATA bays, each taking a surveillance-grade drive up to 16TB, so fit at least one drive before you expect it to record.
Q.02

How is the Pro NVR5216 different from the Lite NVR4216?

Both are sixteen-channel recorders with sixteen PoE ports, but this Pro model records cameras up to 32MP versus 16MP, handles 384 Mbps of bandwidth versus 256 Mbps, and runs more recorder-side AI channels (two face, four perimeter, eight SMD Plus). Choose the Pro series for higher-resolution cameras and heavier AI use, or the Lite NVR4216 for a value sixteen-camera system.
Q.03

How many cameras can it run and how are they powered?

It is a sixteen-channel recorder with sixteen built-in PoE ports, so it powers and connects up to sixteen IP cameras directly over one cable each, with ePoE support for longer cable runs.
Q.04

Will the 130 W PoE budget power sixteen cameras?

The 130 W total is shared across all sixteen ports, with up to 25.5 W on any one port. That suits typical Dahua cameras at around 5 to 9 W each. High-draw dual-light or motorised cameras running their light at night can make it tight, so spread the load or use a separate injector for the heaviest.
Q.05

What camera resolution does it support?

It records IP cameras up to 32MP and outputs to a monitor at up to 4K over HDMI, with a VGA output for a second screen.
Q.06

What AI does it run on the recorder?

It runs face detection and recognition on two channels, perimeter protection on four channels and SMD Plus on eight channels to separate people and vehicles from other motion, plus support for camera-side analytics like video metadata, ANPR and people counting with capable cameras.
Q.07

Can I view it on my phone?

Yes. Connect the NVR to your router and add it to the free Dahua DMSS app to watch live and play back recordings from a phone or tablet, at home or away.
Q.08

Is this genuine Australian Dahua stock?

Yes. The /ANZ suffix indicates Australia and New Zealand firmware, and it is supplied as genuine Australian Dahua stock with local warranty and support.

Add hard drives (required)

The recorder ships without storage — add surveillance drives such as a 6TB, 8TB or 10TB.

03

Prefer the Lite series?

For a value sixteen-camera system up to 16MP, compare the NVR4216-16P.

04

Need more channels?

For 32 channels in a 1.5U chassis, step up to the NVR5432-16P.
