§ 01Overview

What the DH-IPC-HFW3866TP-ZAS-AUS is

The Dahua DH-IPC-HFW3866TP-ZAS-AUS is an 8MP (4K) WizSense bullet with a motorised zoom lens, built for driveways, car parks, perimeters and commercial sites that need both flagship detail and a precise field of view.

Its 1/2.8 inch CMOS sensor captures 3840 by 2160 at up to 25/30 fps, with 120 dB WDR and Starlight low-light performance to hold detail against backlight and in dim conditions.

The motorised 2.7-13.5 mm vari-focal lens lets you zoom and focus remotely from the Dahua app, web interface or NVR, so once the camera is mounted there is no ladder work to reframe.

At night the camera switches to infrared, lighting the scene up to 60 m in black and white, which suits long driveways and fence lines.

SMD 4.0 and IVS analytics classify human and vehicle movement, so alerts and recording follow people and cars rather than animals, foliage or weather, and tripwire and intrusion rules add accurate perimeter cover.

A built-in microphone records audio with the video.

Power is by PoE (802.3af) or 12 VDC over one cable, footage records to a microSD card up to 256 GB or to a Dahua NVR, and Quick Pick works with a Dahua AI NVR to pull human and vehicle events from recordings.

Note the night image is black and white in infrared mode; this is an IR camera, not a full-colour or dual-light model.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DH-IPC-HFW3866TP-ZAS-AUS

Flagship 4K detail

An 8MP sensor captures number plates and faces across wide areas with plenty of headroom to digitally zoom in on review, well beyond a 2MP or 4MP bullet.

Frame the view remotely

The motorised 2.7-13.5 mm lens zooms and focuses from the app or NVR after mounting, so you set the exact coverage and reframe any time without a ladder.

Long 60 m night reach

Infrared lights the scene up to 60 m, so one camera covers a long driveway, yard or fence line.

Fewer false alarms

SMD 4.0 and WizSense classification drive alerts from confirmed human and vehicle movement, keeping notifications meaningful.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Car parks and long driveways

Zoom the lens to cover the full area, with 4K detail for plates and 60 m IR for overnight coverage.

Perimeters and fence lines

IVS tripwire and intrusion zones flag someone crossing a boundary, with human and vehicle classification to cut nuisance alerts.

Commercial and industrial sites

Flagship 8MP detail and remote framing suit warehouses, yards and loading docks where evidence quality matters.

Standalone or NVR systems

Record to a 256 GB microSD for a single camera, or add it to a Dahua WizSense NVR for continuous recording and Quick Pick search.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

What's in the box

The IPC-HFW3866TP-ZAS-AUS bullet camera with its mounting base and fittings and a waterproofing gland for the network connector. A PoE switch or injector, network cable, microSD card and any bracket or junction box are not included.

02

Installation requirements

Mount the camera to a wall or eave, ideally 2.5 to 3 m high, angled down over the area you want to watch, and run Cat5e/Cat6 back to a PoE switch or Dahua NVR. Seal the connector with the supplied gland for outdoor use, power up, then set the motorised zoom and focus remotely. To angle it off a flat wall or seal the cable join, add a compatible Dahua bracket or junction box.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DH-IPC-HFW3866TP-ZAS-AUS

Q.01

Can I adjust the zoom and focus after mounting?

Yes. This is a motorised vari-focal camera, so you set the 2.7-13.5 mm lens remotely from the Dahua app, web interface or NVR. After mounting you can widen or tighten the view and refocus without climbing back up to the camera.
Q.02

How far does the night vision reach and is it colour?

The built-in IR LEDs light the scene up to 60 m at night, suiting long driveways and perimeters. In infrared mode the image is black and white, since this is an IR camera rather than a full-colour or dual-light model. Starlight low-light performance helps it stay usable in dim, partly lit areas before full dark.
Q.03

What is the difference between the 8MP HFW3866TP and the 6MP HFW3666TP?

Both are motorised 2.7-13.5 mm WizSense bullets with 60 m IR. The HFW3866TP is the 8MP (4K) version for maximum detail and digital zoom headroom, while the HFW3666TP is the 6MP version at a lower price. Choose 8MP where you need the finest detail across wide areas, such as car parks and large perimeters.
Q.04

Will it cut false alarms from pets and weather?

Largely, yes. SMD 4.0 and WizSense analytics classify human and vehicle movement, so alerts and recording follow people and vehicles rather than animals, blowing foliage or headlights. Tripwire and intrusion zones let you flag only the areas that matter.
Q.05

How is it powered and do I need an NVR?

It runs on PoE using the 802.3af standard, so one cable carries power and data from a PoE switch or NVR, or on a 12 VDC supply. It records to a microSD card up to 256 GB for a single camera, or connect it to a Dahua WizSense PoE NVR for continuous recording and Quick Pick search.
Q.06

Does it have two-way audio?

It has a built-in microphone that records audio with the video, but no built-in speaker, so it does not offer built-in two-way talk. It captures sound rather than letting you talk back through the camera.
Q.07

Is it good for reading number plates?

Yes, within its identify range. The 8MP sensor plus the motorised zoom let you frame a driveway lane tightly and hold enough detail to read plates. Aim it along the lane rather than across it and avoid pointing straight into headlights for the cleanest captures.
Q.08

Is it weatherproof for outdoor use?

Yes. It has an IP67-rated housing for dust and sustained rain, built for Australian outdoor conditions. Mounting it under an eave still helps cut direct sun and lens glare.
