§ 01Overview

What the DHI-NVR4108HS-8P-AI/ANZ is

The Dahua DHI-NVR4108HS-8P-AI/ANZ is a compact 8-channel WizSense recorder aimed at homes and small businesses that want eight cameras on one tidy unit.

Each of its eight PoE ports powers and connects a camera over a single network cable, so there is no separate switch or set of plug-packs to buy, and the recorder accepts cameras up to 16MP with 256 Mbps of incoming bandwidth.

On the AI side it runs Dahua's recorder-side analytics: SMD Plus separates people and vehicles from irrelevant movement on up to four channels, with one channel of face detection and recognition and two channels of perimeter protection, so motion alerts focus on what matters.

Quick Pick lets you pick a person or vehicle and jump to matching footage quickly instead of scrubbing through hours of recording.

It outputs 4K over HDMI alongside a 1080p VGA feed and records efficiently with Smart H.265+.

Two things are worth knowing before you buy.

The recorder has one SATA bay (up to 16TB) and is supplied without a hard drive, so add a surveillance drive before you expect it to record.

And the eight PoE ports share a 72 W total budget (25.5 W per port), which suits typical Dahua cameras; if every camera is a high-draw dual-light or motorised model running its light at night, check the total draw or power the heaviest cameras separately.

It is genuine Australian Dahua stock with local warranty and support, and you view it remotely on the free DMSS app.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DHI-NVR4108HS-8P-AI/ANZ

Eight cameras, one tidy box

Eight built-in PoE ports power and connect your cameras over single cables, so a full eight-camera system runs from one compact 1U unit with no extra switch.

Recorder-side AI

SMD Plus, face detection and perimeter protection run on the NVR itself, so motion alerts focus on people and vehicles even if a camera lacks its own analytics.

Find footage fast

Quick Pick lets you pick a person or vehicle and jump to matching clips, turning a long footage review into a quick search.

Size your own storage

One SATA bay up to 16TB lets you fit exactly the drive your system needs rather than paying for storage you may not use.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Family homes

Cover the front door, driveway, yard and a couple of interior points with up to eight cameras and people-and-vehicle alerts.

Small business and retail

Record entries, the till area and a stockroom in 4K, with Quick Pick to find an incident quickly.

Upgrading an older 8-camera system

Add recorder-side SMD Plus and 16MP support to a site whose cameras are due for replacement over time.

Remote-watched properties

View all eight channels from anywhere on DMSS, with smart alerts on human and vehicle events.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

What's in the box

One DHI-NVR4108HS-8P-AI/ANZ recorder, power adaptor and mouse. A hard drive, cameras, network cable and a monitor are not included — add at least one surveillance drive before use.

02

Installation requirements

Fit a surveillance-grade SATA drive (up to 16TB), run Cat5e or Cat6 from the PoE ports to each camera (keep runs within about 100 m), connect the NVR to a monitor by HDMI and to your router for remote access, then add it to DMSS. For high-draw cameras, check the 72 W PoE budget and use a separate injector where needed.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DHI-NVR4108HS-8P-AI/ANZ

Q.01

Does the NVR4108HS-8P come with a hard drive?

No. It is supplied as a bare recorder so you can size storage to your system. It has one SATA bay that takes a surveillance-grade drive up to 16TB, so add a drive before you expect it to record.
Q.02

How many cameras can it run and how are they powered?

It is an 8-channel recorder with eight built-in PoE ports, so it powers and connects up to eight IP cameras directly over one network cable each, with no separate switch or power supplies needed.
Q.03

Will the PoE budget power eight cameras at night?

The eight ports share 72 W in total, with up to 25.5 W on any single port. That is comfortable for typical Dahua turrets and bullets at around 5 to 9 W each. It can be tight if every camera is a high-draw dual-light or motorised model running its light at full power after dark, so check the combined draw or power the heaviest cameras from a separate injector.
Q.04

What camera resolution does it support?

It records IP cameras up to 16MP and outputs to a monitor at up to 4K over HDMI, with a simultaneous 1080p VGA output for a second screen.
Q.05

What is the difference between this and the NVR5216-16P?

This NVR4108HS is the Lite series: eight channels, up to 16MP, and Quick Pick smart search. The NVR5216-16P is the Pro series with up to 16 channels, higher 384 Mbps bandwidth, support for cameras up to 32MP and more recorder-side AI channels. Choose this model for an eight-camera home or small-business system, or step up to the Pro series for higher resolution and channel count.
Q.06

What does SMD Plus and Quick Pick actually do?

SMD Plus uses deep learning to classify movement as a person or vehicle so you can ignore wind-blown trees, rain and shadows. Quick Pick lets you select a target and jump straight to matching people or vehicles in the recordings, which makes reviewing footage much faster than basic motion search.
Q.07

Can I view it on my phone?

Yes. Connect the NVR to your router and add it to the free Dahua DMSS app to watch live and play back recordings from a phone or tablet, at home or away.
Q.08

Will it work with non-Dahua cameras?

It is built for Dahua and ONVIF IP cameras. Dahua cameras give full plug-and-play and the recorder-side AI features, while many third-party ONVIF cameras will connect for recording, though some smart features may not be available.
