§ 01Overview

What the DH-IPC-HDW3866TP-ZS-AUS is

The Dahua DH-IPC-HDW3866TP-ZS-AUS is an 8MP (4K) WizSense eyeball, or turret, camera built for driveways, entries, yards and commercial frontages where you want sharp 4K detail and the freedom to dial in the exact field of view.

Its 1/2.8 inch CMOS sensor captures 3840 by 2160 at up to 25/30 fps, with 120 dB WDR and Starlight low-light performance to hold detail against backlight and in dim conditions.

The standout feature is the motorised 2.7-13.5 mm vari-focal lens.

You can zoom and focus it remotely from the Dahua app, web interface or NVR, so once the camera is mounted there is no ladder work to widen or tighten the view, which is a real time-saver on commercial installs.

At night the camera switches to infrared, lighting the scene to about 40 m in black and white.

SMD 4.0 and IVS analytics classify human and vehicle movement, so alerts and recording follow people and cars rather than animals, foliage or weather, and tripwire and intrusion rules add accurate perimeter cover.

A built-in microphone records audio with the video.

Power is by PoE (802.3af) or 12 VDC over one cable, footage records to a microSD card up to 512 GB or to a Dahua NVR, and Quick Pick works with a Dahua AI NVR to pull human and vehicle events from recordings.

Note the night image is black and white in infrared mode; this is an IR camera, not a full-colour or dual-light model.

What the DH-IPC-HDW3866TP-ZS-AUS features actually look like

Representative illustrations of how each key feature performs in a real scene.

8MP Ultra HD

8MP (4K) resolution captures four times the detail of 1080p.
Even when a person or car is far down the driveway, you can zoom in and still recognise a face or read a number plate — detail that lower-resolution cameras lose.

40m IR Night Vision

Built-in infrared sees in total darkness up to around 40m, reaching further across a larger yard or laneway. Subjects appear in clear black-and-white, sharper and brighter as they get closer.

Human/Vehicle Detection

Smart detection focuses on people and vehicles and can ignore things like swaying branches, rain or small animals — helping cut down false alerts and making the right moments easier to find.

False Alarm Reduction

Filtering helps separate real activity from harmless movement like rain, leaves or pets, so you get fewer pointless notifications and the alerts that matter stand out.

IP67 Weatherproof

Sealed against dust and water to IP67, built to keep working through rain, storms and harsh sun — suitable for fully outdoor mounting.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DH-IPC-HDW3866TP-ZS-AUS

Frame the view without a ladder

The motorised 2.7-13.5 mm lens zooms and focuses remotely, so you set the exact field of view from the app or NVR after mounting and adjust it any time the scene changes.

4K detail across wide areas

An 8MP sensor captures number plates and faces with room to digitally zoom in on review, well beyond what a 2MP or 4MP eyeball delivers.

Fewer false alarms

SMD 4.0 and WizSense classification drive alerts from confirmed human and vehicle movement, keeping notifications meaningful.

Tidy, low-profile mount

The compact eyeball body sits close to the surface and aims easily on its ball mount, suiting eaves, soffits and walls.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Driveways and entries

Zoom the lens to frame a gate or driveway exactly, then capture vehicles and visitors in sharp 4K detail.

Commercial frontages

Remote zoom makes it easy to fine-tune coverage of a shopfront or office entry without revisiting the mount.

Yards and perimeters

IVS tripwire and intrusion zones flag someone crossing a boundary, with human and vehicle classification to cut nuisance alerts.

Standalone or NVR systems

Record to a 512 GB microSD for a single camera, or add it to a Dahua WizSense NVR for continuous recording and Quick Pick search.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

What's in the box

The IPC-HDW3866TP-ZS-AUS eyeball camera with its mounting base, screw pack and a waterproofing gland for the network connector. A PoE switch or injector, network cable, microSD card and any junction box or bracket are not included.

02

Installation requirements

Mount the camera to a wall or eave, ideally 2.5 to 3 m high, angled down over the area you want to watch, and run Cat5e/Cat6 back to a PoE switch or Dahua NVR. Seal the connector with the supplied gland for outdoor use. Power up, then set the motorised zoom and focus remotely from the app or NVR. Where the camera calls for a junction box, add a compatible Dahua box and confirm it under the Accessory Selection.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DH-IPC-HDW3866TP-ZS-AUS

Q.01

Can I adjust the zoom and focus after the camera is mounted?

Yes. This is a motorised vari-focal camera, so you set the 2.7-13.5 mm lens remotely from the Dahua app, web interface or NVR. Once it is on the wall you can widen or tighten the view and refocus without climbing back up, which saves a lot of time on higher or awkward mounts.
Q.02

What is the night-vision range and is it colour or black and white?

The built-in IR LEDs light the scene to about 40 m at night. In infrared mode the image is black and white, since this is an IR camera rather than a full-colour or dual-light model. Starlight low-light performance still helps it hold a usable image in dim, partly lit areas before full darkness.
Q.03

Is the HDW3866TP an eyeball or a turret camera?

Dahua calls this body style an eyeball, which is the same compact half-ball turret shape many installers simply call a turret. It sits close to the surface on a ball-and-socket mount, so it is easy to aim and less prone to spider webs and glare than some dome shapes.
Q.04

How much storage does the microSD slot take?

The camera accepts a microSD card up to 512 GB for onboard recording, which suits a single camera or a backup to your NVR. For continuous multi-camera recording, connect it to a Dahua WizSense PoE NVR.
Q.05

Will it cut down false alarms?

Yes. SMD 4.0 and WizSense analytics classify human and vehicle movement, so alerts and recording follow people and vehicles rather than pets, blowing foliage or passing headlights. Tripwire and intrusion zones let you flag only the areas that matter.
Q.06

How is it powered?

By PoE using the 802.3af standard, so one network cable carries both power and data from a PoE switch or NVR, or by a 12 VDC supply. A single Cat5e or Cat6 run keeps the install tidy.
Q.07

Does it have two-way audio?

It has a built-in microphone that records audio with the video, but no built-in speaker, so it does not offer built-in two-way talk. It records sound rather than letting you talk back through the camera.
Q.08

Is it suitable for Australian outdoor conditions?

Yes. It has an IP67-rated housing for dust and rain and an operating range built for outdoor use, so it handles sun, heat and wet weather. Mounting it under an eave still helps reduce direct sun and lens glare.
