§ 01Overview
What the DH-IPC-HDW3849HP-AS-PV-0280B-S3-BLK is
Lens: 2.8mm.
Black housing.
The DH-IPC-HDW3849HP-AS-PV-0280B-S3 is the previous-generation 8MP TiOC turret in black — the TiOC 2.0 era.
The core deterrence package is all here: cross a tripwire or intrusion zone and the red and blue lights flash, the speaker plays a siren or voice warning, and the warm light switches on so the event records in full colour.
The 8MP F1.0 sensor rates 0.004 lux in colour with 30 metres each of infrared and warm light, in a metal IP67 housing rated -40°C to +60°C.
What marks it as previous-generation: SMD 3.0 rather than 4.0 — human and vehicle filtering that works, with a higher false-alert rate than the current AI — no AcuPick support, no AI SSA scene adaptation, and the dual mics record audio but the datasheet lists no live two-way talk.
One-tap disarming via DMSS and the wired arm/disarm input are still present.
The honest comparison: the current S2 black turret sells for a small step up and adds SMD 4.0, AcuPick and two-way talk — most buyers should take that step.
This S3 makes sense when the price gap matters across several cameras, or to match existing S3 units on the same recorder.

8MP Ultra HD
Even when a person or car is far down the driveway, you can zoom in and still recognise a face or read a number plate — detail that lower-resolution cameras lose.

DH-IPC-HDW3849HP-AS-PV-0280B-S3-BLK specifications
- Siren and Light Active Deterrence: red and blue lights plus voice alarms through the built-in speaker when a tripwire or intrusion zone is crossed.
- 8MP F1.0 Sensor: 3840 × 2160 with colour rated to 0.004 lux — the same night numbers as the current S2.
- Smart Dual Illuminators: 30m infrared everyday; the warm light fires on detection and records the event in full colour.
- SMD 3.0 Filtering: human and vehicle classification on alerts — the previous AI generation, without AcuPick or AI SSA.
- One-Tap Disarming: stand the lights and siren down from the DMSS app, or via the wired alarm input.

§ 04Why choose this
Built for the way you actually use the DH-IPC-HDW3849HP-AS-PV-0280B-S3-BLK
Same night numbers as the current model
0.004 lux at F1.0 with 30m of infrared and 30m of warm light matches the S2 spec for spec — the sensor generation didn't change, the intelligence did.
Black where black belongs
Dark eaves, Monument fascias and steel carports hide the housing until the lights fire.
Most buyers should take the current model
Honest guidance: the S2 black costs a small step more and adds SMD 4.0, AcuPick search and live two-way talk — choose this S3 to match existing S3 cameras or when the gap matters multiplied across a whole system.
§ 05Where it fits
Right at home in these scenarios
Extending an existing S3 system
Already running S3-era TiOC cameras means matched behaviour, matched menus and no AI-generation quirks on the same recorder.
Budget multi-camera builds
Across six or eight positions a per-camera saving adds up — the deterrence response intruders actually see is the same as the current model's.
Dark housings on dark builds
Monument and Woodland Grey eaves, timber soffits and black steel — the housing reads as a fitting until the red and blue lights say otherwise.
Driveways and side gates
Tripwire across the access line, lights and a voice warning the moment it's crossed, full-colour event recording behind it.
§ 06Setup
Installation & setup
What's in the Box
1. Dahua DH-IPC-HDW3849HP-AS-PV-0280B-S3 (Black) Camera × 1 2. Power Connector × 1 3. Quick Start Guide × 1
Installation Requirements
1. Power: any 802.3af PoE NVR port or switch (5.0W typical, 7.5W max with the lights and speaker running). A separate 12V DC adapter is only needed without PoE. 2. Network: a wired Ethernet run back to your NVR or switch — PoE carries power and video together on the same line. 3. Mounting: solid wall, ceiling or eave at 2.5–3 metres. The optional PFA137 junction box keeps the connection weatherproof and makes future swaps a 2-minute job.
App Setup
1. Download the DMSS app, create an account and scan the device QR code. 2. Enable push notifications, and keep the one-tap disarm switch handy for expected visitors. 3. Draw tripwire and intrusion zones tight to your own property through the camera's web interface — the warning voice, light behaviour and schedules live there too.
