The DH-IPC-HDW3849H-ZAS-PV-ANZ-S2 is the reach specialist of the TiOC 3.0 turrets. The motorised 2.7–13.5mm lens means you frame the shot from the app after mounting — wide at 108° for a yard, or zoomed right in on a gate, with faces identifiable to about 9 metres at the wide end and 25.7 metres at full zoom. Infrared stretches to 50 metres and the warm light to 40, comfortably past the fixed turrets' 30.
The deterrence set is full TiOC 3.0: red and blue lights, siren and voice warnings, warm-light full-colour event capture, two-way talk through dual mics and a speaker, one-tap disarming in DMSS. The 8MP F1.0 sensor rates 0.004 lux in colour, SMD 4.0 with AI SSA filters the alerts, AcuPick works on compatible recorders, and MicroSD backup reaches 512GB.
Two honest notes: this is a vari-focal you set and leave, not a PTZ you steer around live — zoom in and the wide view is gone until you change it. And the motorised housing is rated to -30°C rather than the fixed models' -40°C, which matters nowhere in Australia. PoE-powered (12.1W max), metal IP67 build.

Honest trade-off: at 13.5mm the 108° wide view is gone — this camera does one framed view at a time. For wide coverage close to the house, the fixed S2 turret is the simpler, cheaper pick.

Power and cable
One Cat5e/Cat6 run to any 802.3af PoE port on your NVR or switch, up to 100 m — 5.8 W typical, 12.1 W with zoom, lights and speaker running. A separate 12 V DC adapter is only needed without PoE.
Mounting
Solid wall, ceiling or eave with a clear sight line to the area you'll zoom onto — with a vari-focal, the sight line matters more than the distance. The optional PFA137 junction box keeps the connection weatherproof.
Avoid night reflections
Don't aim it along a close wall or at glass — the IR and warm light can bounce back and wash out the image. Angle slightly away from reflective surfaces.
Do you need a sparkie?
Usually not for PoE — one data cable carries power, video, lights and siren, and you are not touching 240 V. Get a licensed electrician if the run goes through walls or roof space.
Zoom first, then zones
Download DMSS, scan the QR code, and set the zoom and focus from the app before anything else — frame the gate or driveway, then draw tripwire and intrusion zones on that framed view and pick the warning voice and light schedule.

Yes — one-tap disarming in the DMSS app pauses all event linkage while you're expecting visitors, the web interface schedules deterrence by time of day or sets light-only with no sound, and there's a wired arm/disarm option through the alarm input for integrators.

Will the siren and strobes annoy my neighbours?
They can if zones are drawn carelessly — this is a camera that reacts out loud. Draw tripwires and intrusion zones tight to your own property so footpath traffic never triggers them, schedule sound off overnight, or run light-only mode. If the camera would face a shared driveway or a tight terrace street, the quieter 3866 WizSense turret records the same AI events without the theatrics.

Do the lights and siren work at zoom distances?
Yes — detection zones are drawn on whatever view you've framed, and the lights and voice warning fire when they're crossed. Bear in mind the speaker's audibility at 25 metres is a real-world limit: at gate distances the strobes do most of the deterring.

What is AcuPick and what do I need to use it?
AcuPick is Dahua's newest search: pick a person or vehicle in playback and the recorder matches them across every camera and timeline in seconds. It needs an AcuPick-capable Dahua recorder — on the AI NVRs in our kits you get SMD 4.0 classification and Quick Pick search, which still pulls every human or vehicle event from a day of footage in one pass.

Which NVR do I need for this camera?
Any current Dahua PoE NVR records it. SMD classification, Quick Pick search and full event linkage want an AI model such as the DHI-NVR4104HS-P-AI/ANZ or DHI-NVR4108HS-8P-AI/ANZ used in our kits.

Will it work with a non-Dahua NVR?
Yes — it is ONVIF conformant (Profile S, G and T). You keep video and basic motion events; SMD classification and the light-and-siren event linkage need a Dahua AI NVR.

Can I use this camera without an NVR?
You can — it takes a MicroSD card up to 512GB (not included), streams to the DMSS app, and the deterrence features work stand-alone. Most buyers still pair it with an NVR for longer retention and AI search; treat the SD slot as backup.

Yes — dual built-in microphones and a speaker give genuine two-way talk through the DMSS app: hear what's happening and speak to whoever is there, live.

Is a Dahua camera safe to use in Australia?
Dahua equipment was removed from federal government sites in 2023 as a precaution, and there is no restriction on private or business use. This camera does not need a cloud account: it records to your NVR, works fully offline, and supports HTTPS and firmware encryption. If you want zero outbound traffic, put the system on an isolated network — it still records locally.

Which 3849 turret should I buy?
Four turrets share the red and blue lights and siren voices. The HDW3849 S2 is the current TiOC 3.0 pick — 0.004 lux F1.0 colour, SMD 4.0 and AcuPick support — and it powers our 4, 6 and 8 camera kits. The PRO is the night specialist: colour rated to 0.0008 lux, five times less light needed than the S2. The ZAS adds a motorised 2.7–13.5mm zoom and 50m infrared for gates and long driveways. The S3 black is the previous generation — same lights and siren on older SMD 3.0 AI, without AcuPick or two-way talk.
