What the Insight S485(4mm) is

The TP-Link VIGI InSight S485 is an 8 MP (4K) full-colour turret camera for outdoor use. This is the 4 mm version: a slightly narrower 91° view that reaches further than the 2.8 mm, so faces and plates stay usable at a longer distance down a driveway, path or corridor. Like the wider model, it can hold full colour after dark with four built-in white LEDs instead of only black-and-white infrared.

Lens: fixed 4 mm (91° view); the 2.8 mm version is wider for close, broad areas.
Reach: detects motion to about 107 m and keeps a face or plate identifiable to about 11 m on this 4 mm lens.
Night vision: full colour with the white light (to 30 m) or black-and-white infrared (to 30 m) — set auto, scheduled, always-on or off.
Audio / Power: built-in mic and speaker for two-way talk (mic about 5 m); PoE (802.3af/at) or a 12 V DC plug-pack.

Built for Australian outdoors with an IP67 metal housing (−30 to 60 °C), 120 dB WDR for bright backlight, H.265+ to save storage, and a microSD slot up to 512 GB (card not included). Active Defense adds a flashing white light and an audible warning to move intruders on. It is ONVIF (Profile S/T/G), so it works with VIGI NVRs and most third-party recorders.

Installation Requirements

1. Power: a PoE (802.3af/at) switch or injector, or a 12 V DC plug-pack. 2. Cabling: one Cat5e/Cat6 run (RJ45) back to your PoE switch or NVR. 3. Recorder: a VIGI NVR for full features, any ONVIF recorder, or a microSD card (up to 512 GB) for standalone recording. 4. Mounting: ceiling or wall; the turret tilts on its base to aim. No IK vandal rating, so mount it out of easy reach in exposed spots.

Why choose the 4 mm over the 2.8 mm version?
The 4 mm gives a narrower 91° field but reaches further — it detects motion to about 107 m and keeps a face or plate identifiable to about 11 m, against 85 m and 8 m on the 2.8 mm. Pick 4 mm for driveways, paths and entrances where you want detail at distance; pick 2.8 mm for wide, close areas.

Does it really stay in full colour at night?
Yes, by switching on its four white LEDs, which reach about 30 m. If you would rather not light the area, set it to infrared and it records in black and white to roughly the same range. The mode is your choice in the VIGI app.
Q.03

Can I stop the white light staying on all night?
Yes. The illuminator runs in Auto, Scheduled, Always on or Always off, so you can keep it on infrared or only light set hours.
Q.04

Is it PoE or does it need a plug-pack?
A PoE switch or injector (802.3af/at) powers it and carries video on one cable, up to 12.5 W. A 12 V DC plug-pack (up to 11.5 W) also works if you have no PoE.

Will it work with a non-TP-Link NVR?
It is ONVIF (Profile S/T/G), so most current Hikvision, Dahua and other ONVIF NVRs can record its stream. For full smart features and easy setup, use a VIGI NVR or the VIGI app.

Can it record without an NVR?
Yes, to a microSD card up to 512 GB (not included) for standalone use. An NVR or VIGI Cloud is still worth adding for longer retention and central viewing.

Does it have audio?
Yes, a built-in mic and speaker for two-way talk through the app, with the mic hearing to about 5 m. There are no external audio or alarm terminals, so it uses the built-in audio only.

Will it cope outdoors?
The metal housing is IP67 and rated −30 to 60 °C for dust and heavy rain. There is no IK vandal rating, so mount it out of easy reach in exposed or reachable spots.

What is your return policy?

You have 30 days from the day you receive your order to request a change-of-mind return. Items must be unopened, factory-sealed and in resalable condition. A 15% restocking fee applies and return postage is at your cost. Faulty or incorrectly supplied items are different: we cover the return shipping and refund or replace at no charge.
