What the InSight S455(2.8mm) is

The TP-Link VIGI InSight S455 is a 5 MP full-colour turret camera for outdoor use, and the value pick in the InSight family. It records 2880×1620 detail and, like the 8 MP S485, can stay in full colour after dark with four white LEDs instead of only black-and-white infrared — at a lower price, with a little less resolution and reach.

Lens: fixed 2.8 mm (111° wide view).
Reach: detects motion to about 64 m and identifies a face or plate to about 6 m on this 2.8 mm lens — step up to the 8 MP S485 for longer identify range.
Night vision: full colour with the white light (to 30 m) or black-and-white infrared (to 30 m) — set auto, scheduled, always-on or off.
Audio / Power: built-in mic and speaker for two-way talk (mic about 5 m); PoE (802.3af/at) or a 12 V DC plug-pack.

Built for Australian outdoors with an IP67 metal housing (−30 to 60 °C), 120 dB WDR for bright backlight, H.265+ to save storage, and a microSD slot up to 512 GB (card not included). Active Defense adds a flashing white light and an audible warning to move intruders on. It is ONVIF (Profile S/T/G), so it works with VIGI NVRs and most third-party recorders.

Installation Requirements

1. Power: a PoE (802.3af/at) switch or injector, or a 12 V DC plug-pack. 2. Cabling: one Cat5e/Cat6 run (RJ45) back to your PoE switch or NVR. 3. Recorder: a VIGI NVR for full features, any ONVIF recorder, or a microSD card (up to 512 GB) for standalone recording. 4. Mounting: ceiling or wall; the turret tilts on its base to aim. No IK vandal rating, so mount it out of easy reach in exposed spots.

Frequently asked about the InSight S455(2.8mm)

Q.01

How is the S455 different from the 8 MP S485?
The S455 is the 5 MP value model. It shares the same full-colour white-light night vision, Active Defense, two-way audio and IP67 build as the 8 MP S485, but records 2880×1620 instead of 4K and identifies a face or plate a little closer (about 6 m versus 8 m). It costs less, so pick it when 5 MP is enough and step up to the S485 for 4K and longer reach.

Does it stay in full colour at night?
Yes, by switching on its four white LEDs, which reach about 30 m. If you would rather not light the area, set it to infrared and it records in black and white to roughly the same range. The mode is your choice in the VIGI app.
Q.03

Can I keep the white light from staying on all night?
Yes. The illuminator runs in Auto, Scheduled, Always on or Always off, so you can stay on infrared or schedule the white light for set hours.

Is it PoE or does it need a plug-pack?
A PoE switch or injector (802.3af/at) powers it and carries video on one cable, up to 12 W. A 12 V DC plug-pack (up to 11 W) also works if you have no PoE.

Will it work with my existing NVR?
It is ONVIF (Profile S/T/G), so most current Hikvision, Dahua and other ONVIF recorders can pull its stream. For the full smart features and simple setup, use a VIGI NVR or the VIGI app.

Can it record without an NVR?
Yes, to a microSD card up to 512 GB (not included) for standalone use. An NVR or VIGI Cloud is still worth adding for longer retention and central viewing.

Does it have a microphone and speaker?
Yes, built-in, for two-way talk through the app, with the mic hearing to about 5 m. There are no external audio or alarm terminals, so it uses the built-in audio only.

Is it suitable for an exposed outdoor wall?
The metal housing is IP67 and rated −30 to 60 °C, so dust and heavy rain are fine. There is no IK vandal rating, so mount it out of easy reach in exposed or reachable spots.

You have 30 days from the day you receive your order to request a change-of-mind return. Items must be unopened, factory-sealed and in resalable condition. A 15% restocking fee applies and return postage is at your cost. Faulty or incorrectly supplied items are different: we cover the return shipping and refund or replace at no charge.
