The Hikvision DS-2CD2186G2-I is an 8 MP AcuSense fixed dome built for detailed, dependable outdoor surveillance on a sensible budget.

It is a network (IP) camera that runs over a single PoE cable, not an analog camera: a 1/1.8" sensor captures sharp 8 MP (3840 x 2160) images, and 120 dB true Wide Dynamic Range balances bright and shaded areas in the same frame, such as a sunlit forecourt against a covered entry.

AcuSense deep learning runs on the camera, classifying people and vehicles and triggering perimeter rules such as line crossing and intrusion only on those targets.

That cuts the false alarms that moving branches, rain and animals cause on a basic motion camera, so the alerts you get are worth checking.

At night the camera uses EXIR infrared up to 30 m, so the night image is black and white; this is an infrared AcuSense camera rather than a full-colour-at-night ColorVu model.

H.265+ compression keeps the high-resolution stream efficient on bandwidth and storage.

It is a metal dome rated IP67 against dust and water and IK10 against impact, so it stands up to weather and tampering in entrances, car parks and public areas.

Fixed 2.8 mm or 4 mm lens options set the field of view, and a microSD slot takes a card up to 512 GB for local backup.

What's in the box

One DS-2CD2186G2-I dome camera with a mounting template, fixings and a quick guide. The PoE switch or NVR, network cable, microSD card and any wall or pendant bracket are supplied separately.

Installation requirements

Mount it on a ceiling or wall over the area to cover and aim the lens with the three-axis gimbal, then run one network cable back to a PoE (802.3af) switch or NVR, or use 12 VDC. Set the AcuSense rules in the software and record it to a Hikvision AcuSense NVR. Avoid reflective surfaces directly in front of the lens so the infrared does not bounce back at night.
