What the DS-2CD2186G2-I is

This Hikvision 8 MP 8-channel kit is a complete eight-camera system built for tougher, public-facing locations.

It combines eight DS-2CD2186G2-I AcuSense dome cameras, an eight-channel DS-7608NI-M2/8P PoE NVR and a 4 TB surveillance hard drive already fitted, so each camera connects on a single network cable and the recorder is set up to capture all eight channels from the start.

The dome shape is the point of difference.

Each camera is an 8 MP (4K) dome rated IP67 against dust and water and IK10 against impact, so the low-profile metal housing stands up to knocks and tampering in places like entrances, stairwells, shops and car parks.

AcuSense deep learning classifies human and vehicle targets so alerts and searches ignore rain, shadows and animals, 120 dB wide dynamic range balances harsh backlight, and Powered-by-DarkFighter imaging keeps detail in low light.

These are -I model cameras with no built-in microphone, so the kit records high-quality video without audio.

A couple of honest notes so it is set up well.

At night these are infrared cameras with a 30 metre range, so the picture is black and white, not full colour; this is not a ColorVu kit.

The compact dome housing resists tampering and is discreet indoors and out.

The 4 TB drive is included as standard for generous everyday retention, and H.265+ compression keeps storage efficient, with room to fit a larger drive later.

Run one network cable from each camera to a PoE port on the NVR. Standard Ethernet runs apply, and a PoE switch can extend reach for distant cameras.

Fix each dome to a ceiling or wall covering the area you want watched, within the 30 metre infrared range, and adjust the lens angle inside the housing.

The recorder is an eight-channel NVR and the kit uses all eight channels, so it is complete as supplied. To add more cameras you would step up to a larger recorder, such as a 16-channel NVR, and use a PoE switch for the extra ports.
