What the DS-2CD2186G2-I is

This Hikvision 8 MP kit is a complete four-camera vandal dome system for a home or small business, supplied ready to record.

It pairs four DS-2CD2186G2H-ISU AcuSense dome cameras with a four-channel DS-7604NI-I1/4P PoE NVR — no hard drive is included (add one below to enable recording) — and each camera connects on a single network cable and the recorder is set up to capture all four channels.

With four cameras on a four-channel recorder, the kit is supplied complete for the cameras provided.

The cameras are the strength of this kit.

Each is an 8 MP (4K) dome with DarkFighter low-light imaging for clean detail in dim scenes, AcuSense deep learning that classifies human and vehicle targets so alerts and searches ignore rain, shadows and animals, and a 120 dB wide dynamic range that holds detail against bright backlight.

The metal housing is IP67 weatherproof and IK10 vandal-resistant, so these domes suit accessible and public-facing positions such as entrances, shopfronts and car parks where a camera could be knocked or tampered with.

Each camera also has a built-in microphone, so the kit can record audio alongside the video.

A couple of honest notes so it is set up correctly.

At night these are infrared cameras with a 30 metre range, so the picture is black and white, not full colour; DarkFighter improves low-light quality but this is not a white-light ColorVu kit.

Running four 8 MP cameras on a four-channel recorder is well within its capability, though if you expect to add cameras or want extra recording headroom, stepping up to an eight-channel NVR is a common upgrade.

No hard drive is included — add one below to enable recording; a 4 TB drive gives generous everyday retention, and a larger drive can be fitted for longer storage.

Installation & setup

Four DS-2CD2186G2H-ISU dome cameras, the DS-7604NI-I1/4P NVR (no HDD included — add a hard drive to enable recording), power supply and mounting accessories. Connect a monitor for local viewing.

Cabling

Run one network cable from each camera to a PoE port on the NVR. Standard Ethernet runs apply, and a PoE switch can extend reach for a distant camera.

Mounting

Fix each dome to a ceiling, wall or eave covering the area you want watched, within the 30 metre infrared range, and adjust the lens angle inside the housing.

Setup

Connect the NVR to a screen and the network, add the cameras on the plug-and-play PoE ports, set the AcuSense human and vehicle rules and recording schedule, and set up remote viewing in the Hik-Connect app.

For four cameras as supplied, the four-channel recorder does the job.

What does the IK10 rating add over a normal camera?
IK10 is the highest common impact rating, so the dome housing is built to take knocks, kicks and tampering. Combined with IP67 weather sealing, it makes these cameras a strong fit for accessible and public spots such as entrances, shopfronts, stairwells and car parks where a camera might be hit.

Do the cameras record sound?
Yes. Each DS-2CD2186G2H-ISU has a built-in microphone, so the kit can record audio alongside the video for added context during incident review. Confirm that recording audio is permitted for your site before enabling it.

Do the cameras film in colour at night?
Not in the dark. They use DarkFighter low-light imaging for clean detail in dim conditions, but at night they switch to 30 metre infrared, so the image is black and white. For full-colour footage all night you would choose a ColorVu kit with white-light cameras.

AcuSense uses on-camera deep learning to classify human and vehicle targets and ignore other movement such as rain, leaves or animals. The system alerts you to what matters, cuts false alarms, and lets you search recordings by human or vehicle events instead of scrubbing through hours of footage.

Are these cameras suitable for outdoors in Australian weather?
Yes. The dome cameras are IP67 rated against dust and water in a metal housing, so they handle sun, rain and dust on outdoor walls and eaves as well as indoor positions, with 30 metre infrared for night coverage and IK10 impact resistance for exposed spots.
