01Overview

What the DS-2CD2087G2-LU is

The Hikvision DS-2CD2087G2-LU is an 8 MP ColorVu mini bullet for anyone who wants colour footage day and night. Where an infrared camera switches to black-and-white after dark, ColorVu keeps the picture in full colour: a large F1.0 aperture and a high-sensitivity 1/1.2" sensor gather enough light to stay colourful in very dim conditions, and a discreet white-light supplement up to 30 m takes over when there is almost no natural light. Colour makes a real difference to identifying clothing, vehicles and detail at night.

It is an intelligent camera, not just a colourful one. AcuSense deep-learning analytics classify human and vehicle targets, so motion, line-crossing and intrusion alarms trigger on people and cars and ignore animals, rain and moving foliage, which cuts false alerts and speeds up searches. A built-in microphone adds audio to the 4K video, 120 dB WDR balances bright and shadowed areas, and H.265+ compression keeps the high-resolution colour stream efficient.

Two points so you set expectations correctly. This is a bullet camera with an IP67 weatherproof metal housing - it is built to resist dust and rain rather than to carry an IK10 vandal rating, so for impact-prone positions choose a vandal-rated model. And the white-light supplement can be set to stay on for constant colour or to come on only when a target is detected, which keeps it neighbour-friendly. It powers over a single PoE cable, has a built-in mic but no speaker, and records to any Hikvision AcuSense NVR.

08Questions

Frequently asked about the DS-2CD2087G2-LU

Q.01

Does the DS-2CD2087G2-LU really stay in colour at night?
Yes. It is a ColorVu camera, so it keeps full colour after dark rather than switching to black-and-white. An F1.0 lens and a large sensor gather colour in very low light, and a white-light supplement up to 30 m keeps the picture colourful when there is almost no natural light.
Q.02

Does it use infrared or white light?
It uses white light, not infrared. ColorVu relies on a high-sensitivity sensor plus a discreet white-light supplement to keep images in full colour, which is what lets it show clothing and vehicle colour at night instead of a grey infrared picture.
Q.03

Will the white light stay on all the time?
You choose. The supplement light can run constantly for permanent colour, or be set to switch on only when the camera detects a person or vehicle, which keeps it neighbour-friendly and acts as a deterrent. The mode is configurable in the software.
Q.04

Does it tell people and vehicles apart from other movement?
Yes. AcuSense deep-learning analytics classify human and vehicle targets, so motion and perimeter alarms trigger on people and cars and ignore animals, rain and foliage. That cuts false alerts and lets you search recordings by target type.
Q.05

Does it have audio and is it vandal rated?
It has a built-in microphone for audio recording, but no speaker, so it captures sound rather than offering two-way talk-back. It is a bullet with an IP67 weatherproof housing for dust and rain; it does not carry an IK10 vandal rating, so for impact-prone spots choose a vandal-rated camera.
Q.06

How is it powered and recorded?
It powers and networks over a single PoE cable, or runs on 12 VDC, and records to any Hikvision AcuSense NVR so the human and vehicle events and audio are kept and searchable. A microSD slot up to 256 GB adds local backup.
Q.07

Where is it best used?
It suits entrances, driveways, shopfronts and yards where colour at night helps you identify people and vehicles. The 8 MP sensor and AcuSense make it a strong all-round choice for homes and small business perimeters.
