What the DS-2CD2186G2-ISU is

The Hikvision DS-2CD2186G2-ISU is an 8MP 4K AcuSense fixed dome camera for outdoor and undercover use.

Its 8MP sensor (3840 x 2160) captures identification-grade detail of faces and vehicles within range, and AcuSense gen 2 deep learning classifies people and vehicles, so motion and perimeter events come from real targets rather than animals, shadows or headlights, and recorded footage is quick to search by target type.

DarkFighter low-light processing keeps the picture usable in dim conditions, and 120dB true WDR balances bright and shadowed areas such as a doorway backlit by the sky or a storefront with large windows.

An 850nm infrared illuminator reaches up to 30 metres at night; as an infrared model it records in black and white in full darkness.

The -ISU model adds a built-in microphone and an audio and alarm input/output interface, so you can capture sound and integrate sensors; it has a microphone but no speaker, so it is not a two-way audio camera.

The fixed lens is available in 2.8mm or 4mm.

The metal housing is IP67-rated and IK10 vandal-resistant, and mounts to a wall, soffit or ceiling.

The camera runs over PoE (802.3af) or 12V DC, takes a microSD card up to 256GB for on-board recording, and works with Hikvision AcuSense NVRs and Hik-Connect.

It is normally installed by a security or cabling technician.

Installation & setup

What it is

An 8MP 4K AcuSense outdoor dome with a 2.8mm or 4mm fixed lens; choose the lens in your order comments. Built-in microphone, no speaker.

Power and cabling

Run one Cat5e/6 cable and power it over PoE (802.3af) from a PoE switch or NVR, or use 12V DC where PoE is not available.

Mounting

Fix to a wall, soffit or ceiling at about 2.5-3 m; the three-axis gimbal lets you aim the lens after mounting, and under-eave positions limit UV exposure.

Setup

In Australia a network camera is usually fitted by a licensed security installer or a competent IT/cabling technician, who runs the Cat5e/6 cable, terminates the RJ45, mounts the camera and adds it to the NVR or app. Add it in Hik-Connect or your NVR, set human and vehicle detection zones, and check your state's audio recording rules before enabling the microphone.

What is the difference between the -I and the -ISU model?
The -ISU model adds a built-in microphone and an audio and alarm input/output interface. The plain -I has neither. This -ISU has a microphone but no speaker, so it captures audio but is not a two-way camera.

Which lens should I choose, 2.8mm or 4mm?
Choose 2.8mm for a wide view of an entry or room (about 111 degrees), and 4mm for more reach down a driveway or hallway. Note your choice in the order comments.

Does it record in colour at night?
No. It is an infrared camera, so in full darkness it records in black and white using the 30m IR. DarkFighter keeps more detail where some ambient or street light is present, but it is not a ColorVu colour-at-night camera.

Does it support PoE or do I need a power supply?
It supports PoE (IEEE 802.3af, Class 3) over one Ethernet cable, so a standard PoE switch or NVR port runs power and data. It also accepts 12V DC.

Is it vandal-resistant?
Yes. It is IK10 impact-rated and IP67 weatherproof, which suits exposed and reachable outdoor positions such as covered car parks, walkways and public entries.

Will it work with my existing Hikvision NVR?
Yes, with Hikvision AcuSense NVRs on current firmware. Keep the NVR firmware up to date so it recognises the human and vehicle smart-event types.

Can it record without an NVR?
Yes. It has a microSD slot up to 256GB for standalone edge recording, and it also supports NAS storage and ANR network-loss buffering.

Is audio recording legal in Australia?
The camera has a built-in microphone, but audio recording laws vary by state and you generally must notify people that audio is being recorded. Check your state's Surveillance Devices Act before enabling audio.
