§ 01Overview

What the DH-IPC-HFW71242H-Z is

The Dahua DH-IPC-HFW71242H-Z is a 12MP bullet from the WizMind X range, built for sites that need both very high resolution and the full set of deep-learning analytics.

A 1/1.7-inch 12MP sensor captures 4000 x 3000 detail with a motorised 2.7-12mm lens, Ultra Starlight low-light imaging and DWDR, with a published identify range around 18.7m at the tele end.

Smart IR reaches up to 60m for night coverage.

The WizMind X platform runs ANPR that reads number plates at speeds up to 60km/h, face detection and recognition, video metadata, people counting, PPE detection, parking space management and AcuPick search, with perimeter protection that classifies humans, vehicles and animals.

Because the camera produces a very large 12MP stream, plan for the bandwidth and storage it needs and use a capable AI NVR; some users run it at 8MP where an older recorder cannot keep up at full resolution.

The IP67 and IK10 housing suits exposed sites, and it powers from 12V DC, 24V AC, PoE+ or ePoE.

It has audio in and out for external devices but no built-in microphone, and records monochrome at night under infrared.

This is a special-order model with a typical lead time of around 6 to 9 weeks.

What the DH-IPC-HFW71242H-Z features actually look like

Representative illustrations of how each key feature performs in a real scene.

60m IR Night Vision

Built-in infrared sees in total darkness up to around 60m, covering long driveways and large properties. Even well away from the house, people and vehicles remain clear in black-and-white.

False Alarm Reduction

Filtering helps separate real activity from harmless movement like rain, leaves or pets, so you get fewer pointless notifications and the alerts that matter stand out.

Human/Vehicle Detection

Smart detection focuses on people and vehicles and can ignore things like swaying branches, rain or small animals — helping cut down false alerts and making the right moments easier to find.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DH-IPC-HFW71242H-Z

Very high 12MP detail

A 12MP sensor covers a large area and still lets you zoom into recorded footage to read faces, plates and detail.

Full deep-learning analytics

ANPR, face detection, video metadata, people counting and AcuPick bring forensic-grade search and automation to one camera.

Flexible install and power

A motorised lens with 12V DC, 24V AC, PoE+ or ePoE options suits demanding sites and long cable runs.

Built for critical sites

An IP67 and IK10 housing with an optional anti-corrosion model handles exposed, harsh and high-value locations.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Car parks and gated entrances

ANPR reads plates at the entry while the 12MP view covers the wider area, logging vehicles and people in one camera.

Critical infrastructure and industry

High resolution and PPE and perimeter analytics monitor large, sensitive sites where detail and automated alerts matter.

Intersections and forecourts

One camera covers a broad scene and zooms into incidents in recorded footage, reducing the number of cameras needed.

Retail and transport hubs

People counting, face detection and video metadata support security and operational insight in busy public areas.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

Size the NVR, bandwidth and storage

Plan for an AI NVR that can handle a 12MP stream with the bandwidth and storage it needs. If an existing recorder cannot keep up at full resolution, run the camera at 8MP for smoother playback.

02

Mount and power the camera

Fix the bullet to a wall, pole or parapet with a clear view, and power it from 12V DC, 24V AC, PoE+ or ePoE; use ePoE with a compatible recorder for long runs.

03

Set the lens and ANPR geometry

Set the motorised zoom and focus from the recorder. For ANPR, position the camera at the recommended angle and distance so plates fall within the capture zone.

04

Configure the AI and pair an NVR

Set perimeter, ANPR, face and metadata rules, and pair a compatible Dahua AI NVR to use face recognition and AcuPick search end to end.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DH-IPC-HFW71242H-Z

Q.01

What can the 12MP resolution do that a smaller camera cannot?

At 4000 x 3000 it captures far more detail across a wide scene, so you can cover a large area and still digitally zoom into recorded footage to read a face, plate or object. This suits car parks, forecourts, intersections and critical infrastructure where one camera needs to do the work of several.
Q.02

Will any NVR handle the full 12MP stream?

Plan for a capable AI NVR with the bandwidth and storage to handle a 12MP stream, as the camera has a high total bit rate. Some users find an older or lower-spec recorder struggles at full resolution and run the camera at 8MP instead, which still gives excellent detail with smoother playback.
Q.03

How does the ANPR feature work?

The camera reads number plates with onboard deep-learning ANPR for vehicles moving at up to 60km/h, and supports allow and block lists. It suits gated entrances, car parks and yards. For best results, mount it at the recommended angle and distance for the lane so plates fall within the capture zone.
Q.04

What AI analytics does it include?

It runs the full WizMind X suite: perimeter protection with human, vehicle and animal classification, face detection and recognition, video metadata, people counting, PPE detection, parking space management and AcuPick search. To use features like face recognition and AcuPick end to end, pair it with a compatible Dahua AI NVR.
Q.05

How far does the night vision reach?

Smart IR reaches up to 60m, and the Ultra Starlight sensor holds detail in very low light before the scene switches to monochrome infrared. Electronic image stabilisation helps keep the high-resolution image steady on tall or exposed mounts.
Q.06

Does it record audio?

It has audio input and output terminals for connecting external audio devices, but it does not have a built-in microphone or speaker. On its own it does not capture on-site audio or support two-way talk.
Q.07

How is it powered?

It accepts 12V DC, 24V AC, PoE+ (802.3at) or ePoE, which gives flexibility across sites. ePoE allows longer cable runs than standard PoE with a compatible recorder or switch. Size the supply for up to around 24W with the infrared and heater active.
Q.08

Is there a lead time on this camera?

Yes. This is a special-order WizMind X model, so it typically has a lead time of around 6 to 9 weeks rather than being held in regular stock. Contact us to confirm current availability and timing before planning the install.

§ 09Bundles

Recommended packages

01

AI recorders and storage

Record to a capable Dahua AI NVR such as the 16-channel NVR5216-16P or NVR5416-16P, fitted with an 8TB or 10TB surveillance hard drive for the high 12MP bit rate and AI search.

02

Power and cabling

Use PoE+ (802.3at) or ePoE for long runs with quality Cat6 cable, or supply 12V DC or 24V AC. A standard 802.3af port will not power this camera.

03

Plan ahead for lead time

This is a special-order WizMind X model with a typical lead time of around 6 to 9 weeks. Contact us to confirm availability and timing before planning the install.
