§ 01Overview

What the DHI-NVR5416-16P-AI/ANZ is

The Dahua DHI-NVR5416-16P-AI/ANZ is a 16-channel WizSense Pro network video recorder for medium to large surveillance systems.

Sixteen built-in PoE ports power and connect up to 16 IP cameras directly, and ports 1-8 support ePoE, which extends a camera run to around 300m at 100Mbps or up to 800m at 10Mbps over standard cabling, useful on larger sites where 100m is not enough.

The total PoE budget is 130W, with up to 25.5W on a single port.

It records cameras up to 32MP and runs at 384 Mbps incoming, recording and outgoing with AI off; enabling on-recorder AI lowers that to around 200 Mbps, so plan camera count and resolution around how much AI you switch on.

As an NVR5 series recorder it is AcuPick-ready: paired with AcuPick cameras it performs refined human and vehicle search across live and recorded video.

AI by recorder covers two channels of face detection and recognition, four channels of perimeter protection and eight channels of SMD Plus, with ANPR, people counting, heat map and metadata available from capable cameras.

Four SATA bays take up to 16TB per drive for substantial local storage; a hard drive is not included, so fit surveillance-grade drives sized to your retention needs.

Dual HDMI and dual VGA outputs support multi-screen 4K display, and the recorder accepts third-party ONVIF cameras alongside Dahua, with remote access through the free DMSS app.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DHI-NVR5416-16P-AI/ANZ

16 cameras with long cable reach

Sixteen built-in PoE ports connect 16 cameras directly, and ePoE on ports 1-8 reaches far beyond the usual 100m limit on larger sites.

AcuPick smart search

As an NVR5 series recorder it is AcuPick-ready, so paired with AcuPick cameras it finds human and vehicle targets across footage fast.

Serious storage and AI headroom

Four SATA bays up to 16TB each and a strong AI engine suit higher camera counts, longer retention and on-recorder analytics.

Built for control rooms

Dual HDMI and dual VGA 4K output and a rack-friendly 1.5U chassis suit commercial sites with multiple monitors.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Medium to large businesses

Runs up to 16 cameras across a warehouse, office or retail site, with AcuPick search and ePoE reach for distant camera positions.

Multi-building and campus sites

ePoE on ports 1-8 covers outbuildings and gate cameras beyond the 100m limit, recording everything to one recorder.

Sites needing fast investigation

AcuPick and SMD Plus let staff filter footage to people and vehicles quickly after an incident, cutting review time sharply.

Control rooms and reception

Dual-monitor 4K output suits a staffed monitoring position watching live feeds while recording continues in the background.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

Rack-mount with airflow

Install the 1.5U recorder in a comms rack or on a desktop near your network gear, leaving clearance for airflow given the 130W PoE load.

02

Fit surveillance hard drives

Drives are not included. Fit surveillance-grade SATA drives (up to 16TB per bay across four bays) sized for 16 cameras and your retention target.

03

Use ePoE for long runs

Connect cameras to the built-in PoE ports; for runs beyond 100m use ports 1-8 in ePoE mode, and confirm the total load stays within the 130W budget.

04

Set up AI and remote access

Connect the LAN port to your network, add the recorder to the DMSS app, then enable AcuPick, SMD Plus and other AI on the channels that need them.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DHI-NVR5416-16P-AI/ANZ

Q.01

Does this NVR include a hard drive?

No. The NVR5416-16P is supplied without drives so you can match capacity to your system. It has four SATA bays taking up to 16TB each, and we recommend surveillance-grade drives built for continuous recording. For a 16-camera system at higher resolutions, plan generous capacity, and you can split recording across the four bays or add capacity later.
Q.02

How many cameras can it run and how far?

It records 16 channels and has 16 built-in PoE ports, so up to 16 cameras connect directly on one cable each. Ports 1-8 support ePoE, which extends a run to around 300m at 100Mbps or up to 800m at 10Mbps, helpful on larger sites where the usual 100m limit is a problem.
Q.03

Does it support AcuPick?

Yes. As an NVR5 series recorder it is AcuPick-ready. When paired with AcuPick-capable Dahua cameras it performs refined human and vehicle target search across live and recorded video, which makes investigating an event much faster. The recorder also runs SMD Plus, face and perimeter analytics on its own with compatible cameras.
Q.04

What happens to performance when I turn on AI?

Bandwidth is 384 Mbps with AI off and drops to around 200 Mbps when on-recorder AI is enabled, because the AI engine uses processing headroom. In practice that means you balance how many channels run AI by recorder against total camera count and resolution. Many systems run AI on the key channels and standard recording elsewhere.
Q.05

How many hard drive bays and how much storage?

It has four SATA bays, each taking up to 16TB, for substantial local storage without an external unit. That suits longer retention on a larger camera count. Use surveillance-grade drives, and remember the maximum usable capacity can vary with operating temperature as noted by Dahua.
Q.06

Can I connect third-party cameras?

Yes. The recorder supports ONVIF (Profile T, S and G) plus major third-party brands alongside Dahua. Recording works across brands, while AI features such as SMD Plus, face and AcuPick search depend on using compatible Dahua AI cameras, so mixed systems still record but advanced analytics favour Dahua models.
Q.07

Does it output to more than one screen?

Yes. It has dual HDMI and dual VGA outputs and supports multi-screen 4K display, so you can run a main control monitor and a second display, or feed two viewing positions. This suits a control room or reception where more than one screen or operator is involved.
Q.08

Is this a rack-mount recorder?

It is a compact 1.5U chassis that installs in a rack or sits on a desktop. For a 16-camera commercial system it is usually rack-mounted in a comms cabinet near the network gear, which keeps cabling tidy and the recorder secure. Allow airflow around it given the higher PoE load.
