§ 01Overview

What the InSight S385PI is

The TP-Link VIGI InSight S385PI is an 8MP panoramic bullet camera that gives a 180-degree wide view from one fixed lens, so a single camera can watch a whole forecourt, yard or building face without the blind spots between separate cameras.

It records 4K (3840 x 2160) detail with 120dB wide dynamic range, which keeps both bright and shadowed parts of a wide scene readable.

Its standout feature is active deterrence: built-in red and blue warning lights and a siren can trigger when the AI detects a person or vehicle in a guarded area, to scare off an intruder in real time rather than just record them.

AI human and vehicle classification reduces false alarms, and smart events cover intrusion, line-crossing, loitering and object removal.

Two-way audio, through the built-in microphone and speaker, adds live voice warnings, and alarm in/out terminals let you tie in external sensors or sirens.

Note this is an IR night-vision model: at night it uses infrared (to about 20 m) and the image is black-and-white.

The red and blue lights are alarm strobes, not full-colour illumination, so the S385PI is not a 24/7 full-colour camera.

It has an IP67 weatherproof, IK10 vandal-resistant metal housing, runs on PoE (802.3at) or 12V DC, records to microSD up to 512GB, and works with VIGI NVRs and the VIGI app or third-party recorders over ONVIF and RTSP.

What the InSight S385PI features actually look like

Representative illustrations of how each key feature performs in a real scene.

8MP Ultra HD

8MP (4K) resolution captures four times the detail of 1080p.
Even when a person or car is far down the driveway, you can zoom in and still recognise a face or read a number plate — detail that lower-resolution cameras lose.

False Alarm Reduction

Filtering helps separate real activity from harmless movement like rain, leaves or pets, so you get fewer pointless notifications and the alerts that matter stand out.

Human/Vehicle Detection

Smart detection focuses on people and vehicles and can ignore things like swaying branches, rain or small animals — helping cut down false alerts and making the right moments easier to find.

Two-Way Audio

Talk and listen in real time through the app — tell a courier where to leave a parcel, or speak to someone at the gate, whether you're home or away.

Blue/Red Strobe

When activity is detected after dark, the camera can flash a bright red-and-blue strobe to warn intruders they've been seen — active deterrence, not just a recording for later.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the InSight S385PI

One camera, 180 degrees

A single 8MP panoramic lens covers a wide forecourt or building face with no gaps between cameras.

Scares intruders off

Red-blue warning lights and a siren trigger on AI detection, so the camera deters as well as records.

Detail across the scene

4K resolution and 120dB WDR keep faces and plates readable from one side of a wide view to the other.

Backed locally

Supplied by an authorised dealer with a 3-year warranty and Australia-wide support.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Car parks and forecourts

Cover a wide parking area or driveway with one camera and deter loiterers with the warning lights.

Building frontages

Watch a long shopfront or facade in 4K, with people and vehicle alerts that ignore passing traffic.

Yards and compounds

Protect an open yard with a 180-degree view and active deterrence after hours.

Loading docks

Monitor a wide dock area and trigger lights and voice warnings on unauthorised entry.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

What it is

An 8MP 180-degree panoramic bullet with red-blue active deterrence and IP67/IK10 housing. It is an IR night-vision model, not full-colour.

02

Power and network

PoE (802.3at) over one Cat5e/6 cable, or 12V DC. Use a PoE NVR or an 802.3at PoE switch (it can draw up to about 21W on PoE).

03

Mounting and aim

Wall or eave mount at a height that lets the 180-degree view span the area; the fixed lens needs no zoom setup.

04

Setup

In Australia a network camera is usually fitted by a licensed security installer or a competent IT/cabling technician, who runs the Cat5e/6 cable, terminates the RJ45, mounts the camera and adds it to the NVR or VIGI app. Set the active-deterrence rules, detection zones and audio in the VIGI app or NVR; it also adds over ONVIF or RTSP.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the InSight S385PI

Q.01

How wide a view does the S385PI cover?

It gives a 180-degree horizontal view from one fixed lens, so a single camera covers a wide forecourt, yard or building face.
Q.02

Is it a full-colour night-vision camera?

No. At night it uses infrared (to about 20 m) and the image is black-and-white. The red and blue lights are alarm strobes, not full-colour illumination.
Q.03

What is active deterrence?

Built-in red and blue warning lights and a siren can trigger when the AI detects a person or vehicle, to deter an intruder in real time.
Q.04

Does it have AI detection?

Yes. AI human and vehicle classification reduces false alarms, with intrusion, line-crossing, loitering and object-removal events.
Q.05

Does it have two-way audio?

Yes. It has a built-in microphone and speaker, plus alarm in/out terminals for external sensors or sirens.
Q.06

What PoE does it need?

It uses 802.3at PoE and can draw up to about 21W, so use an 802.3at-capable NVR or switch; 12V DC is also supported.
Q.07

What resolution is it?

8MP 4K (3840 x 2160) with 120dB wide dynamic range.
Q.08

Is it weatherproof?

Yes. It has an IP67 weatherproof, IK10 vandal-resistant metal housing.

§ 09Bundles

Recommended packages

02

Mount and weatherproof

Add the VJB-300 junction box or VJB-240 wall-mount bracket for protected cabling at the camera.

03

Prefer a turret body?

The 180-degree panoramic turret version is the InSight S485PI.

04

Want full colour at night?

For 24/7 colour rather than IR, see the InSight S385 full-colour bullet or InSight S455 full-colour turret.
