What the Insight S385 is

The TP-Link VIGI InSight S385 is an 8MP full-colour bullet camera that combines 4K detail with genuine colour night vision.

It has both IR LEDs and white LEDs, each rated to 30 m, and reaches 0 lux with white light, so at night it can hold full colour, capturing clothing and vehicle colour that a plain IR camera renders only in black-and-white.

It comes with a 2.8mm lens for a wide 111-degree view, or a 4mm lens for a more focused, longer-reach view.

It records 4K (3840 x 2160) on a 1/2.7-inch sensor with 120dB wide dynamic range to balance bright and shadowed areas.

AI human and vehicle classification keeps alerts to real people and cars, ignoring trees, animals and shadows, and it supports intrusion, line-crossing and loitering detection.

Two-way audio, through the built-in microphone and speaker, allows listen-in and talk-back from the VIGI app, and H.265+ compression keeps storage and bandwidth down.

The S385 has an IP67-rated metal bullet housing whose extended lens hood helps shield against glare and weather.

It runs on PoE (802.3af/at) or 12V DC, records to a microSD card up to 512GB, and works with VIGI NVRs and the VIGI app, or with third-party recorders over ONVIF (Profile S/T/G) and RTSP.

It is normally fitted by a security or cabling technician.

What it is

An 8MP full-colour fixed-lens bullet camera (2.8mm or 4mm) with an IP67 metal housing, for outdoor use.

Power and network

PoE (802.3af/at) over one Cat5e/6 cable, or 12V DC. It connects to a PoE NVR or PoE switch.

Mounting

Wall or eave mount facing the area; the lens hood helps with glare. Add a junction box for cable management.

Setup

In Australia a network camera is usually fitted by a licensed security installer or a competent IT/cabling technician, who runs the Cat5e/6 cable, terminates the RJ45, mounts the camera and adds it to the NVR or VIGI app. Set the night-vision mode (full colour or IR), detection zones and audio in the VIGI app or NVR; it also adds over ONVIF or RTSP.
