§ 01Overview

What the InSight S455(4mm) is

The TP-Link VIGI InSight S455 is a 5MP full-colour turret camera built for clear, colour footage day and night.

It pairs a 1/2.7-inch CMOS sensor with an F1.6 lens, four warm-white LEDs and four IR LEDs (each rated to 30 m), so the scene stays in full colour at night rather than switching to black and white.

The 4mm fixed lens gives an 88-degree horizontal field of view, a focused angle that suits driveways, gates and narrow approaches; a 2.8mm version is also made for wider areas.

Smart detection is built in.

AI human and vehicle classification tells people and cars apart from swaying trees, rain and shadows, so you get fewer nuisance alerts, and the camera supports line-crossing, intrusion and region entry/exit detection.

Two-way audio, through the built-in microphone and speaker, lets you listen in or speak to visitors from the VIGI app.

H.265+ compression keeps recordings small, and a microSD card up to 512GB allows on-board recording as a backup to an NVR.

The S455 has an IP67-rated metal housing for outdoor use and runs on PoE (802.3af/at) over a single network cable, or on 12V DC.

It works with VIGI NVRs and the VIGI app, and as an ONVIF (Profile S/T/G) camera it also adds to many third-party NVRs, NAS units and VMS software, or streams over RTSP.

It is normally installed by a security or cabling technician.

What it is

A 5MP full-colour fixed-lens turret camera for outdoor or indoor use, with a 4mm lens and IP67 metal housing.

Power and network

PoE (802.3af/at) over one Cat5e/6 cable, or a 12V DC plug-pack. It connects to a PoE NVR or a PoE switch.

Mounting

Surface mount to a wall or ceiling, soffit or eave; add a junction box or wall-mount bracket for cable management or angled positions.

Setup

In Australia a network camera is usually fitted by a licensed security installer or a competent IT/cabling technician, who runs the Cat5e/6 cable, terminates the RJ45, mounts the camera and adds it to the NVR or VIGI app. It adds to a VIGI NVR or the VIGI app, or to a third-party recorder over ONVIF or RTSP.
