§ 01Overview

What the IPC-B640H-Z is

The HiLook IPC-B640H-Z is a 4 MP motorised bullet from HiLook, Hikvision's value brand, and its main draw is the motorised 2.8 to 12 mm lens.

You set the zoom and focus remotely from a web browser or app after the camera is mounted, so there is no climbing back up a ladder to fine-tune the view, which makes it easy to frame anything from a wide driveway to a tighter gate or doorway.

Image quality is solid for the class.

The 1/3" 4 MP sensor records 2560 x 1440 at up to 20 fps, 120 dB true WDR balances bright and dark areas in the same frame, and 3D digital noise reduction keeps the picture clean.

At night a 30 metre 850 nm infrared range lights the scene; to be clear, this is an infrared camera, so the night image is black and white, not the full-colour picture you get from a ColorVu model.

H.265+ compression keeps file sizes and bandwidth down.

It is a straightforward Value-series camera, which is reflected in what it does and does not include.

It records to a microSD card up to 128 GB or to a network recorder, and it speaks ONVIF and ISAPI, so it works with most third-party NVRs as well as HiLook and Hikvision recorders.

It does not have the AcuSense human and vehicle classification of the higher HiLook ranges, and it has no built-in microphone or speaker, so it is a clean, dependable video camera rather than an AI or audio unit.

The IP67 metal body and PoE (802.3af) power make it simple to install outdoors on a single cable.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the IPC-B640H-Z

Frame the view remotely

A motorised 2.8 to 12 mm lens sets zoom and focus from a browser or app after fitting, so there is no ladder trip to adjust the shot.

Clear detail for the price

A 4 MP sensor with 120 dB WDR and 3D noise reduction keeps faces and plates readable against backlight and in low light.

Flexible recording

Record to a microSD card, a NAS or any ONVIF NVR, so it fits a single-camera setup or a larger HiLook or Hikvision system.

Simple, weatherproof install

An IP67 metal body on a single PoE cable makes outdoor mounting quick and reliable.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Homes and driveways

Cover a driveway or yard and zoom the lens to frame the gate or entry exactly.

Small business premises

Watch a shopfront, car park or loading area with adjustable coverage on one cable.

Schools and warehouses

Flexible-zoom coverage of corridors, fences and open areas with weatherproof reliability.

Property managers

A dependable value camera for multi-site installs that work with existing ONVIF recorders.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

In the box

Motorised bullet camera, mounting base and the printed guide. A wall or pole bracket and a junction box are selected to suit the surface and bought separately.

02

Power and cabling

Run a single network cable for PoE (802.3af), or use 12 VDC. Keep the Ethernet run within standard limits to the switch or recorder.

03

Mounting

Fix the bracket to a solid wall or eave facing the area you want covered, and seal the cable entry; the integrated sun shield helps against glare and rain.

04

Setup

Add the camera in the recorder or app, set the motorised zoom and focus to frame the view, and configure motion and region-of-interest detection and night settings.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the IPC-B640H-Z

Q.01

Is this camera banned or illegal to use in Australia?

No. The Australian restriction applies only to federal and some state government and defence sites, which were asked to remove certain Hikvision and Dahua equipment. Private homeowners and businesses can legally buy and use the IPC-B640H-Z; the rule is about sensitive government premises, not consumer or commercial use.
Q.02

Do I adjust the motorised zoom remotely, or climb back up the ladder?

Remotely. The zoom and focus are motorised and set from a web browser or the HiLook app or recorder, so once the camera is mounted you frame and focus the view without touching it again. That is the main reason to choose a motorised lens over a fixed one.
Q.03

Can I record without an NVR, just on an SD card?

Yes. It takes a microSD card up to 128 GB for on-board recording, and it can also write to a NAS. For continuous recording, multiple cameras and easy playback, a HiLook or Hikvision NVR is the better long-term option, but SD-only recording works for a single camera.
Q.04

Will it work with a non-HiLook NVR?

Yes. It supports ONVIF Profile S/G and ISAPI, so it is compatible with most third-party NVRs. For full feature access and the simplest plug-and-play setup, a HiLook or Hikvision recorder is recommended, but it is not locked to one brand.
Q.05

Does it record in colour at night?

No. It uses 850 nm infrared to about 30 metres, so the night image is black and white. It is not a ColorVu camera and does not have a white-light supplement, so for full-colour night images you would step up to a ColorVu model.
Q.06

Does it detect people and vehicles to cut false alarms?

It supports standard motion detection with region-of-interest settings, but it does not include the AcuSense human and vehicle classification found in the higher HiLook ranges. For deep-learning human and vehicle filtering, choose an AcuSense camera instead.
Q.07

How is it powered and is it weatherproof?

It runs on PoE (802.3af) so a single network cable carries power and video, or you can use 12 VDC. The metal body is rated IP67 against dust and water and is built for an operating range of -30 °C to 60 °C, so it suits outdoor walls and eaves.
