§ 01Overview

What the NVR-216MH-C-16P is

The HiLook NVR-216MH-C-16P is a value 16-channel network video recorder with sixteen built-in PoE ports, aimed at homes and small businesses that want a larger camera count without a separate switch.

Each PoE port powers and connects an IP camera over one network cable, and the recorder accepts cameras up to 8MP with 160 Mbps of incoming bandwidth.

It outputs 4K over HDMI alongside a 1080p VGA feed, records efficiently with H.265+, and includes HiLook's Motion Detection 2.0, which classifies movement as a person or vehicle on up to four channels to reduce false motion alerts.

Two things are worth knowing before you buy: the recorder is supplied without a hard drive, so add a surveillance drive (up to 8TB per bay, two bays) to record; and the total PoE power budget is 150 W across all sixteen ports, which is ample for typical cameras but can be tight if every camera is a high-draw model running infrared at night — spread heavy loads or use a separate injector for the highest-power cameras.

You watch live and play back from anywhere with the free Hik-Connect app.

It is genuine Australian HiLook stock with local warranty and support.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the NVR-216MH-C-16P

Sixteen PoE ports built in

Run up to sixteen cameras straight from the recorder over one cable each, with no separate PoE switch to buy or configure.

4K recording on a budget

Records up to 8MP and outputs 4K over HDMI, with H.265+ to keep storage and bandwidth down — a lot of capability for a value NVR.

Smarter motion alerts

Motion Detection 2.0 classifies people and vehicles on up to four channels, so key areas raise fewer false alarms.

Size your own storage

Two SATA bays up to 8TB each let you fit exactly the storage your system needs rather than paying for a drive you may outgrow.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Larger homes and acreage

Cover the house, sheds, gates and yard with up to sixteen cameras on a single recorder.

Small to medium business

Run a full set of cameras over entries, floors and car parks without adding a network switch.

Multi-building sites

Bring sixteen cameras across nearby buildings back to one recorder over PoE cabling.

Staged rollouts

Start with a few cameras and grow to sixteen channels over time, adding storage as the system expands.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

What's in the box

One NVR-216MH-C-16P recorder, power supply and mouse. A hard drive, cameras, network cable and a monitor are not included — add at least one surveillance drive before use.

02

Installation requirements

Fit one or two surveillance-grade SATA drives (up to 8TB each), run Cat5e or Cat6 from the PoE ports to each camera (within about 100 m), connect the NVR to a monitor by HDMI and to your router for remote access, then add it to Hik-Connect. For high-draw cameras, check the 150 W PoE budget and use an injector where needed.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the NVR-216MH-C-16P

Q.01

Does the NVR-216MH-C-16P come with a hard drive?

No. The recorder is supplied without a hard drive so you can size storage to your system. It has two SATA bays that each take a surveillance-grade drive up to 8TB, so add at least one drive before you expect it to record.
Q.02

How many cameras can it run?

It is a 16-channel recorder with 16 built-in PoE ports, so it powers and connects up to sixteen IP cameras directly over one cable each, with no separate switch needed.
Q.03

Will the 150 W PoE budget power sixteen cameras?

The 150 W total is shared across all sixteen ports, which is fine for typical HiLook cameras at around 5 to 9 W each. It can be tight if every camera is a high-draw model running infrared or white-light at full power at night. For those, spread the load or power the highest-draw cameras from a separate PoE injector.
Q.04

What camera resolution does it support?

It records IP cameras up to 8MP (4K) and outputs to a monitor at up to 4K over HDMI, with a simultaneous 1080p VGA output for a second screen.
Q.05

Can it tell people and vehicles apart?

Yes, within limits. It includes HiLook's Motion Detection 2.0, which classifies movement as a person or vehicle on up to four channels to cut false alerts. For human and vehicle analytics on every channel, use AcuSense cameras that do the classification themselves.
Q.06

How many cameras can I view and play back at once in high resolution?

While all sixteen channels record, the recorder's decoding is shared: roughly one channel at 8MP, three at 4MP or six at 1080p for simultaneous high-resolution live view or playback. Lower-resolution sub-streams let you see all sixteen tiles at once, and you can play back any single channel in full quality.
Q.07

Can I view it on my phone?

Yes. Connect the NVR to your router and add it to the free Hik-Connect app to watch live and play back recordings from your phone or tablet, at home or away.
Q.08

Which cameras work with it?

It is designed for HiLook and Hikvision IP cameras for full plug-and-play. It also supports ONVIF, so many third-party IP cameras will connect, though some features may be limited.

01

Add a hard drive (required)

The recorder ships without storage — add a surveillance drive such as a 2TB, 6TB or 8TB.
