What the DS-2DE3A404IWG-E-W is
The Hikvision DS-2DE3A404IWG-E/W is a 4 MP Wi-Fi mini PTZ camera that brings pan, tilt and zoom to a small, wall-mounted housing, made for homes and small businesses that want to watch a wide area and zoom into detail without running a network cable.
A 1/2.8" sensor records 2560 x 1440 video, and the 4x optical zoom (2.8 to 12 mm) lets you move from a wide view of a yard to a close look at a gate or a face, with 16x digital zoom on top.
The camera pans up to 350 degrees and tilts through 90 degrees, so it covers far more ground than a fixed camera from one mounting point.
On-camera deep learning classifies people and vehicles, so the perimeter rules, line crossing and intrusion, alarm only on real targets and ignore the moving trees, rain and animals that trip a basic motion camera.
When something does cross the line, the camera can act on its own: it flashes a white light and plays a warning through its built-in speaker to deter an intruder before they get close.
It has both a built-in microphone and a built-in speaker, so it supports two-way audio for listening in and speaking out from the app.
Connection is flexible.
The camera has dual-band-free 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for sites where pulling a cable is hard, and it also has a standard network port; either way it records to a Hikvision NVR or to a microSD card up to 256 GB.
Note that the camera still needs power, from a 12 VDC supply or PoE, even when video runs over Wi-Fi.
The IP66 metal-and-polymer housing handles rain and dust outdoors, and an operating range down to -30 degrees C suits exposed walls.
At night the camera uses infrared up to 50 m; the white light is a short-range deterrent rather than a full-colour imaging light.
