01Overview

What the DS-2DF5225X-AE3 is

The Hikvision DS-2DF5225X-AE3(T5) is a 2 MP DarkFighter PTZ speed dome built for covering large, busy areas where you need to zoom in on detail. A 25x optical lens (4.8 to 120 mm) reaches well down a street, carpark or platform, while 360° endless pan and a -5° to 90° tilt let it follow activity anywhere around it.

Its standout feature is low-light performance. DarkFighter technology produces clear colour images down to 0.002 Lux and black-and-white down to 0.0002 Lux, and 120 dB True WDR keeps faces and number plates readable against bright backgrounds like headlights or doorways. Deep-learning smarts add Face Capture, automatic target tracking and perimeter protection rules such as line crossing and intrusion, so the camera can follow a person and flag events rather than just record.

It is practical to deploy, with a dual design that mounts either recessed into a ceiling or on a surface/pendant, an IP66 and IK10 rating for outdoor and vandal-prone sites, 6000V lightning protection and a microSD slot for up to 256 GB of edge storage.

Two honest notes before you buy: this is a DarkFighter camera, so it relies on its ultra-sensitive sensor rather than an IR illuminator - it has no built-in IR, so in total darkness it needs some ambient or added light. And it is powered by 24 VAC or Hi-PoE, not standard PoE, so plan a Hi-PoE source or a 24 VAC supply. Audio and alarm connections are via terminals, not a built-in mic or speaker.

04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DS-2DF5225X-AE3

See detail across big areas

A 25x optical zoom with 360 degree pan reaches down streets, carparks and platforms to pull in faces and plates.

Clear colour in very low light

DarkFighter delivers colour video down to 0.002 Lux and 120 dB WDR holds detail against headlights and bright backgrounds.

Smart tracking, not just recording

Deep-learning Face Capture, auto-tracking and perimeter rules let the camera follow a target and flag events.

Flexible, rugged install

Recessed or surface mounting with IP66, IK10 and 6000V surge protection suits foyers through to exposed public sites.

05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Transport hubs

Cover a station, platform or interchange and zoom onto incidents across a wide concourse.

Carparks and large yards

Sweep a big open area and pull in number plates or people at distance.

Town centres and main streets

Monitor a busy street with auto-tracking following activity along the strip.

Campuses and large sites

Watch a school, hospital or industrial site from a high vantage point with smart event rules.

06Setup

Installation & setup

  1. What's in the box

One DS-2DF5225X-AE3(T5) DarkFighter PTZ dome with the surface/recessed mounting hardware and documentation. Power supply, cabling and any NVR are supplied separately.

  2. Installation requirements

Mount it recessed into a ceiling or on a surface/pendant on a structure rated for its weight. Power it from a Hi-PoE source or a 24 VAC supply - standard PoE is not sufficient. Connect the network via the RJ45 port, fit a microSD card if you want edge recording, and connect external audio or alarm devices to the terminals if required. For continuous recording, add it to a Hikvision NVR.

08Questions

Frequently asked about the DS-2DF5225X-AE3

Q.01

Does the DS-2DF5225X-AE3 have infrared night vision?
No. It is a DarkFighter camera, which means it uses a highly sensitive sensor to produce colour video in very low light down to 0.002 Lux, rather than an IR illuminator. There is no built-in IR, so in complete darkness it needs some ambient or added lighting to see.
Q.02

How is it powered - will standard PoE run it?
It is powered by 24 VAC (up to 25 W) or Hi-PoE. Standard 802.3af PoE does not supply enough, so use a Hi-PoE source or injector, or a 24 VAC power supply.
Q.03

How far can the 25x zoom see?
The 25x optical lens ranges from 4.8 mm to 120 mm, which lets it pull in detail well down a street, carpark or platform. With 16x digital zoom on top it can magnify further, though optical zoom gives the cleanest detail.
Q.04

Can it track movement automatically?
Yes. It uses deep-learning analytics for Face Capture and automatic target tracking, and supports perimeter protection rules such as line crossing, intrusion and region entrance/exit to trigger events and follow a target.
Q.05

Can I recess it into a ceiling?
Yes. The AE3(T5) has a dual design that mounts either recessed into a ceiling for a flush look or on a surface or pendant for external walls and poles, so it suits both interior foyers and outdoor sites.
Q.06

Is it weatherproof and vandal resistant?
Yes. It is rated IP66 against dust and heavy rain and IK10 against impact, with 6000V lightning surge protection, so it is suited to exposed outdoor and public locations.
Q.07

Does it have a built-in microphone or speaker?
No. It provides audio input and output via terminals so you can connect an external microphone and speaker, but there is no microphone or speaker built into the camera.
Q.08

Can I record it without an NVR?
It has a microSD slot for up to 256 GB of local recording at the edge, but for continuous recording, multi-camera viewing and longer retention, connect it to a Hikvision NVR.
