What the DS-2CD2087G2H is

The Hikvision DS-2CD2087G2H is an 8 MP mini bullet that pairs true 4K resolution with Smart Hybrid Light, so you can read faces and number plates by day and keep colour at night.

The 1/1.8" sensor and F1.0 aperture gather plenty of light, and 130 dB WDR balances bright skies against shaded driveways and doorways.

At night it works the way most Australian homes prefer.

The camera stays in quiet infrared until AcuSense detects a person or vehicle, then white light switches on for full-colour footage up to 40 m.

Because the white light only fires on a real detection, you avoid lighting up the street all night while still capturing colour detail when someone is actually there.

AcuSense deep-learning analytics classify human and vehicle targets, so motion and line-crossing alarms ignore cats, rain and waving branches, and a built-in microphone records audio alongside the video.

It is a compact metal bullet rated IP67 against dust and heavy rain, available with a 2.8 mm wide lens or a 4 mm lens for a tighter, longer view.

Power and network it over one PoE cable from a switch or NVR, or use 12 VDC, and record it to a Hikvision AcuSense NVR to keep the human and vehicle events searchable.

Note this model has a microphone for audio but no speaker, so it records sound rather than offering two-way talk-back.

Mount it on a wall or eave above the area you want to cover and run a single network cable back to a PoE switch or NVR, or use a 12 VDC supply. Aim the bullet, set the lighting and AcuSense rules in the software, and add it to a Hikvision AcuSense NVR for recording and event search.

Does the DS-2CD2087G2H record in colour at night?

It uses Smart Hybrid Light, so it watches in discreet infrared by default and turns on white light for full-colour footage up to 40 m when it detects a person or vehicle. You get a low-profile camera most of the night and bright colour when something happens.

Is the white light on all the time?

No. By default the white light only switches on when AcuSense detects a person or vehicle, then it returns to infrared. You can change the lighting mode in the settings to permanent white light, permanent infrared or the smart hybrid mode, depending on how much light you want.

It has a built-in microphone that records audio with the video, but it has no speaker, so it cannot play sound or talk back. If you need to speak through the camera, choose a model listed with a built-in speaker or two-way audio.

The 2.8 mm gives a wider view that suits a driveway, entrance or small yard up close, while the 4 mm narrows the field of view to reach a little further down a path or boundary. Pick the 2.8 mm for coverage and the 4 mm for distance.

Can I power it with PoE?

Yes. It runs on standard PoE (802.3af) over a single network cable from a PoE switch or a PoE NVR, which carries both power and data, or on 12 VDC if you prefer a separate supply. PoE keeps the wiring to one cable per camera.

Will it work with a third-party NVR?

It supports ONVIF, so it can connect to many third-party recorders, but the AcuSense human and vehicle search, smart events and easiest setup work best with a Hikvision AcuSense NVR. For the full feature set, pair it with a matching Hikvision recorder.
