What the DS-PWA96-Kit-Complete is

This Hikvision AX PRO complete kit is a wireless intrusion alarm for a home or small business, built around the DS-PWA96-M-WB hub.

It combines motion and perimeter detection in one starter pack: a wireless PIN keypad, two PIR motion detectors, a magnetic door contact and an outdoor siren.

The door contact watches an entry point while the PIRs cover rooms or hallways, so the system can catch a door being opened as well as movement inside, and an outdoor siren warns the street when a zone is triggered.

Everything talks to the hub over Hikvision's Tri-X two-way wireless with AES-128 encryption, and the whole system is set up and run from the free Hik-Connect app.

The hub is the strength of this kit.

It handles up to 96 wireless zones and outputs, so the detectors supplied are just the starting point and you can keep adding contacts, motion detectors, keyfobs and sirens as the property grows.

It reports over Wi-Fi, wired network and an optional 3G/4G SIM, so if the internet drops the SIM still gets the alert out, and a built-in lithium backup battery keeps it running through a power cut.

Alerts arrive as app push notifications and phone calls to the people you nominate, and the system can also report to a professional alarm receiving centre over the SIA-DC09 protocol if you choose monitored service later.

A couple of honest notes so expectations are right.

This is a self-monitored system by default, so there is no compulsory monthly fee; you and your nominated contacts receive the alerts through the app.

The kit includes one outdoor siren and no separate indoor sounder, so many installs add a DS-PS1-I-WB indoor siren for an audible warning inside.

The DS-PK1-E-WB keypad is a PIN keypad without an LCD screen or a card reader, so for tap-to-disarm tags or an on-screen menu you would add the DS-PT1-WB tag reader or the DS-PK1-LT-WB LCD keypad.

The detectors offer 30 kg pet immunity to help reduce false alarms from animals.

Installation & setup

In the box

The DS-PWA96-M-WB hub, DS-PK1-E-WB keypad, two DS-PDP15P-EG2-WB PIR detectors, a DS-PDMC-EG2-WB door contact and a DS-PS1-E-WB outdoor sounder, with batteries and fixings.

Mount the hub

Place the hub centrally with good Wi-Fi or a network point, fit the SIM if you want the mobile backup path, and power it up to charge the backup battery.

Pair and place devices

Add each device to the hub in the app, fit the door contact to a main entry with the magnet aligned, mount the PIRs about 2.2 m high covering rooms, and fix the siren high on an outside wall.

Set up and test

Create users in Hik-Connect, set away and stay arming, choose how alerts are sent, then walk-test every zone and confirm the siren sounds and the app alerts arrive.

Q.01

What is the difference between this kit and the 3-detector kit?
This complete kit adds perimeter detection: it includes two PIR motion detectors plus a magnetic door contact and an outdoor siren, so it watches an entry point as well as movement inside. The 3-detector kit instead has three PIR detectors and both an indoor and an outdoor siren but no door contact. Both run on the same 96-zone hub and expand the same way, so the choice comes down to whether you want a door contact or a third motion detector and an indoor siren to start.

Is there a monthly fee with this alarm kit?
No. The AX PRO kit is self-monitored by default, so you and the contacts you nominate receive alerts directly through the free Hik-Connect app and by phone call, with no compulsory subscription. If you later want a professional alarm receiving centre to watch the system, the hub can report to one over the SIA-DC09 protocol, arranged separately.

Does the kit include an indoor siren?
This kit includes one outdoor siren and no separate indoor sounder. The outdoor siren gives an audible warning to the street, and many installs add a DS-PS1-I-WB indoor siren so the alarm is clearly heard inside as well. The indoor siren pairs to the same hub in minutes.

What happens if the internet or power goes down?
The hub reports over Wi-Fi, wired network and an optional 3G/4G SIM, so if the broadband drops the SIM path can still send the alert out. A built-in lithium backup battery keeps the hub running through a mains power cut, and the system flags a fault so you know a link or the power needs attention.

The DS-PWA96-M-WB hub supports up to 96 wireless zones and outputs, including up to 48 image-verification PIRCAM detectors, plus keyfobs, tag readers and extra sirens. The detectors in this kit are a starting point, so you can expand to more door and window contacts, glass-break, smoke and more as the property grows.

Does the keypad read tags or have a screen?
The included DS-PK1-E-WB is a PIN keypad, so you arm and disarm by entering a code. It does not have an LCD screen or a built-in tag reader. For tap-to-disarm with Mifare tags you would add a DS-PT1-WB tag reader, and for an on-screen menu you would step up to the DS-PK1-LT-WB LCD keypad.

Will the detectors trigger on my pet?
The DS-PDP15P-EG2-WB detectors include pet immunity rated to about 30 kg, so a typical household cat or dog is far less likely to set them off. Mounting height and angle still matter, so following the detector guide and keeping the beam above normal pet movement gives the best results.

Is this kit suitable for a business as well as a home?
Yes. The 96-zone hub, multiple user accounts and optional monitored reporting suit both homes and small commercial sites such as shops, offices and workshops. You scale the number of detectors, contacts and sirens to the size of the premises, and set up separate users so staff have their own access.
