§ 01Overview

What the DHI-NVR5208-8P-AI/ANZ is

The Dahua DHI-NVR5208-8P-AI/ANZ is an 8-channel WizSense Pro network video recorder that brings AcuPick smart search to a compact 8-camera system. Eight built-in PoE ports (IEEE 802.3af/at, with ePoE) power and connect up to eight IP cameras on a single cable each, with a total PoE budget of 130W. It records cameras up to 8MP (4K) and runs at 384 Mbps with AI off, dropping to around 200 Mbps when on-recorder AI is enabled.

As an NVR5 series Pro recorder its standout feature is AcuPick: paired with AcuPick-capable Dahua cameras it accurately matches and retrieves human and vehicle targets across live and recorded video, so finding a specific person or vehicle after an event takes seconds rather than scrubbing through hours of footage. AI by recorder also covers face detection and recognition, perimeter protection and SMD Plus, with ANPR, people counting and metadata available from capable cameras. It accepts third-party ONVIF cameras alongside Dahua, and dual HDMI and dual VGA outputs support 4K display.

Two SATA bays take up to 20TB per drive for generous local storage; a hard drive is not included, so fit a surveillance-grade drive sized to your cameras and retention. Compared with the NVR4208-8P, this NVR5 Pro model adds AcuPick and stronger AI performance for the same eight channels. (Note: the product code is the AI/ANZ AcuPick model; older listings may reference a 4KS2 code, but this is the WizSense AI series recorder.)

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DHI-NVR5208-8P-AI/ANZ

AcuPick search in a compact NVR

An NVR5 Pro recorder that brings AcuPick human and vehicle search to an 8-camera system, so investigations take seconds.

Eight cameras, no extra switch

Eight built-in PoE ports with ePoE power and connect up to eight cameras on one cable each, reaching distant positions.

Strong AI performance

Face, perimeter and SMD Plus by recorder, plus AcuPick, give cleaner alerts and far faster footage review than a basic NVR.

Generous, flexible storage

Two SATA bays take up to 20TB per drive, so you can keep more footage for longer (drive supplied separately).

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Homes wanting fast search

Records up to eight cameras and uses AcuPick to find a specific person or vehicle in recordings quickly after an event.

Small businesses needing AI

Gives a shop or office strong on-recorder AI and AcuPick search on a compact, affordable eight-channel platform.

Sites with distant cameras

ePoE support reaches a far gate or outbuilding beyond the usual 100m limit without an extra switch on that run.

Upgrades from a basic NVR

A step up from an NVR4 recorder for users who want AcuPick and stronger AI without moving to a larger 16-channel unit.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

Fit a surveillance hard drive

A drive is not included, so fit a surveillance-grade SATA drive (up to 20TB per bay) before recording, sized for your cameras and retention.

02

Connect cameras to the PoE ports

Run one network cable from each camera to the recorder's built-in PoE ports for power and data; use ePoE on supported ports for longer runs.

03

Pair AcuPick-capable cameras

To use AcuPick search, connect AcuPick-capable Dahua cameras so the recorder and cameras work together on human and vehicle matching.

04

Set up AI and the app

Connect the LAN port to your router, add the recorder to the DMSS app, then enable AcuPick, SMD Plus and other AI on the channels that need them.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DHI-NVR5208-8P-AI/ANZ

Q.01

What does AcuPick do on this recorder?

AcuPick is a Dahua smart-search feature that accurately matches and retrieves human and motor-vehicle targets across live and recorded video. Paired with AcuPick-capable cameras, it lets you find a specific person or vehicle in seconds rather than scrubbing through hours of footage. It is the standout reason to choose this NVR5 Pro model over a standard NVR4 recorder.
Q.02

Does this NVR come with a hard drive?

No. The NVR5208-8P is supplied without a drive so you can choose the capacity you need. It has two SATA bays taking up to 20TB per drive, and we recommend a surveillance-grade drive built for continuous recording. Size the drive to your camera count, resolution and how many days of footage you want to keep.
Q.03

How is this different from the NVR4208-8P?

Both are 8-channel recorders with eight built-in PoE ports, but this is an NVR5 series Pro recorder with AcuPick search and stronger AI performance, while the NVR4208 is an NVR4 recorder limited to Quick Pick search. Choose the NVR5208 when you want AcuPick and higher AI capability on a compact eight-camera system.
Q.04

How many cameras can I connect and how far?

It records eight channels and has eight built-in PoE ports, so up to eight cameras connect directly on one cable each. With ePoE support you can extend a camera run well beyond the usual 100m on supported ports, which helps reach a distant gate or outbuilding without an extra switch on that line.
Q.05

What happens to performance when AI is on?

Bandwidth is 384 Mbps with AI off and drops to around 200 Mbps when on-recorder AI is enabled, because the AI engine uses processing headroom. For an eight-camera system this is rarely a limit, but if you run high-resolution cameras with AI on every channel, keep the total within the recorder's capacity.
Q.06

What resolution cameras does it record?

It records cameras up to 8MP (4K), so it handles current Dahua 4MP, 6MP and 8MP cameras with Smart H.265+ compression to keep storage efficient. For AcuPick search, pair it with AcuPick-capable Dahua cameras so the recorder and cameras work together on target matching.
Q.07

Can I use third-party cameras?

Yes. It supports ONVIF as well as Dahua IP cameras, so it records mixed-brand systems. AcuPick and the recorder's AI features depend on compatible Dahua cameras, so for full smart search pair it with Dahua AI cameras; third-party cameras still record but advanced analytics are limited.
Q.08

Can I view it on my phone?

Yes. Add the recorder to the free Dahua DMSS app on iOS or Android for live view, playback and push notifications from anywhere with an internet connection. Connect the NVR to your router so it can reach the internet, then you can check cameras and run searches remotely.
