§ 01Overview

What the DH-IPC-HDBW5442EP-ZE-2712 is

The Dahua DH-IPC-HDBW5442EP-ZE-2712 is a 4MP Pro AI WizMind vandal dome built on a large 1/1.8-inch sensor, delivering 2688 x 1520 detail with strong low-light performance down to 0.003 lux and 140dB wide dynamic range for high-contrast entries.

A motorised 2.7-12mm varifocal lens lets installers set the field of view remotely after the dome is fixed, which suits lobbies, corridors, retail floors and covered external areas where the ideal angle is not obvious before mounting.

Deep-learning analytics run on the camera, adding face capture with six-attribute extraction, perimeter protection that classifies humans and vehicles, people counting across up to four zones, and heat map data.

An IP67 and IK10 metal housing handles dust, water and tampering in semi-public positions, and the camera powers from PoE (802.3af), 12V DC or 24V AC with microSD storage up to 256GB.

See it in action

What the DH-IPC-HDBW5442EP-ZE-2712 features actually look like

Representative illustrations of how each key feature performs in a real scene.

4MP Ultra HD

4MP captures roughly twice the detail of standard 1080p.

40m IR Night Vision

Built-in infrared sees in total darkness up to around 40m, reaching further across a larger yard or laneway. Subjects appear in clear black-and-white, sharper and brighter as they get closer.

Human/Vehicle Detection

Smart detection focuses on people and vehicles and can ignore things like swaying branches, rain or small animals — helping cut down false alerts and making the right moments easier to find.

IP67 Weatherproof

Sealed against dust and water to IP67, built to keep working through rain, storms and harsh sun — suitable for fully outdoor mounting.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DH-IPC-HDBW5442EP-ZE-2712

Detail and low light from a large sensor

A 1/1.8-inch 4MP sensor with 0.003 lux Starlight sensitivity and 140dB WDR captures usable colour detail in dim corridors and balances bright, backlit entries that defeat smaller-sensor domes.

Frame it after it is mounted

The motorised 2.7-12mm lens is set remotely once the dome is fixed, removing the guesswork from framing in hard-to-reach ceiling positions.

Analytics built into the camera

Face capture, perimeter protection with human and vehicle classification, people counting and heat map run on-device, giving security and operational data without a separate analytics server.

Built for semi-public positions

An IP67 and IK10 metal dome resists weather and tampering on covered walkways, facades and public-facing ceilings.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Retail and shopping centres

People counting across four zones and heat map give foot-traffic and queue insight, while the motorised lens frames entries, checkouts or aisles after mounting.

Lobbies and reception areas

Face capture with attribute extraction supports visitor logging, and 140dB WDR keeps faces legible against bright glass-fronted backgrounds.

Covered car park entries

Perimeter protection classifies vehicles and people crossing defined zones, with IP67 and IK10 protecting the dome in exposed or semi-covered ceiling positions.

Corridors and stairwells

Starlight sensitivity and 40m Smart IR maintain image quality in poorly lit internal spaces during early morning and evening.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

Confirm the PoE budget

The camera draws up to 12.4W on 802.3af PoE. Confirm the switch or NVR port and total budget can supply this alongside other devices, or use a 12V DC or 24V AC supply.

02

Mount on ceiling, wall or eave

Fix the metal dome to the ceiling or wall, using a Dahua junction box such as the PFA138 where surface cabling or clearance is needed.

03

Set the lens remotely

After mounting, set the motorised 2.7-12mm zoom and focus from the NVR or web interface to frame the scene without returning to the camera.

04

Configure AI rules

Set perimeter tripwire and intrusion rules with human and vehicle classification, and configure people counting zones, allowing for blind spots created by structures.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DH-IPC-HDBW5442EP-ZE-2712

Q.01

What does the motorised varifocal lens add over a fixed-lens dome?

The 2.7-12mm motorised lens can be adjusted remotely from the web interface or a connected NVR after the dome is mounted, so the installer does not need to remove it from the ceiling to reframe. For corridors, lobbies and retail floors where access is awkward, that is a practical advantage over a fixed-lens dome.
Q.02

How far does the night vision reach?

Smart IR reaches up to 40m across three LEDs. Smart IR lowers intensity for closer subjects to prevent the washed-out overexposure that fixed-power IR can cause, keeping footage usable from the foreground to the edge of the IR range.
Q.03

What AI analytics does this camera run?

It runs deep-learning analytics on the camera, including face capture with six-attribute extraction, perimeter protection (tripwire, intrusion, loitering, fast moving, parking and people gathering) with human and vehicle classification, people counting and heat map. This is face capture and attribute metadata, not identity matching against a database.
Q.04

Does it have two-way audio or a built-in microphone?

The datasheet for this model lists a one-in and one-out audio interface for connecting external devices, rather than a built-in microphone or speaker. Connect an external microphone or speaker to the audio ports if you need on-site audio, and use the alarm in and out for linked devices.
Q.05

Is it suitable for outdoor and vandal-prone positions?

Yes. The metal dome is IP67 against dust and water and IK10 against impact, across a -30C to +60C range. It suits covered external areas, building facades and semi-public ceilings; position the dome so the bubble is not subject to prolonged direct rain without an overhang where possible.
Q.06

What power does it need and how much does it draw?

It runs on PoE (802.3af, Class 0) and draws up to 12.4W, which sits within a standard 802.3af budget but toward the higher end. It also accepts 12V DC and 24V AC. When planning a multi-camera install, confirm the switch per-port and total PoE budget covers this draw alongside other devices.
Q.07

Can it record without an NVR?

Yes. It supports a microSD card up to 256GB for edge recording, plus NAS, FTP and SFTP. It can record locally as a standalone device or as a backup alongside an NVR, which suits remote sites or added redundancy.
Q.08

Will the AI events work with a third-party recorder?

Video works over ONVIF Profile S, G and T. The face capture, perimeter protection and people counting events are fully managed with a Dahua NVR running compatible software such as Smart PSS or DSS. On a third-party platform, confirm which WizMind AI events it can receive before specifying the system.
