§ 01Overview

What the DH-EPC230U is

The Dahua DH-EPC230U is a specialist explosion-protected IP camera for hazardous industrial environments where standard cameras cannot be used safely.

A 304 stainless steel housing is certified to ATEX and IECEx, with explosion-proof marking Ex db IIC T6 Gb for gas and Ex tb IIIC T80C Db for dust, making it suitable for Zone 1 and Zone 2 gas atmospheres and Zone 21 and 22 dust atmospheres found in oil and gas, refining, chemical, pipeline and grain handling sites.

A 2MP 1/2.8-inch STARVIS sensor with a 30x optical zoom (4.5-135mm) captures detail across large facilities, with a published identify range around 186m, Starlight low-light imaging and 120dB true WDR for high-contrast scenes.

A Smart IR illuminator reaches up to 100m for night coverage.

Because this is a certified explosion-protected device, it must be selected, installed and commissioned by personnel qualified for the relevant hazardous-area zone, following the equipment marking and local regulations.

It powers from AC220V or Hi-PoE and operates from -40C to +60C.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DH-EPC230U

Safe in explosive atmospheres

ATEX and IECEx certification with a flameproof enclosure allows monitoring in classified gas and dust hazardous areas where standard cameras are unsafe.

Corrosion-resistant build

A 304 stainless steel housing rated IP68 stands up to coastal, chemical and washdown environments across a -40C to +60C range.

Long-range plant monitoring

A 30x optical zoom on a 2MP STARVIS sensor reads detail across large facilities, with around 186m identify range and 100m IR at night.

Proven industrial analytics

IVS tripwire, intrusion and object detection automate alerting on critical process and perimeter areas without a separate analytics device.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Oil, gas and refining

Flameproof monitoring of process areas, tank farms and loading points in classified gas hazardous zones.

Chemical and pharmaceutical plants

Corrosion-resistant coverage of reactors, pipework and storage where flammable vapours or dust are present.

Grain handling and milling

Dust-rated monitoring of silos, conveyors and handling areas where combustible dust atmospheres form.

Pipelines and energy sites

Long-range surveillance of remote, exposed energy infrastructure with stainless steel durability.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

Confirm the hazardous-area classification

Match the camera marking (Ex db IIC T6 Gb / Ex tb IIIC T80C Db) to the zone, gas group and temperature class of the site before specifying. Use a qualified hazardous-area designer where needed.

02

Use qualified installers

Installation, flameproof cable entry, earthing and commissioning must be completed by personnel competent in explosion-protected equipment, following the manual and local regulations.

03

Plan the power method

Provide AC220V mains or Hi-PoE as suited to the site, sizing the supply and any injector for the load and meeting the hazardous-area wiring requirements.

04

Mount for coverage and access

Fix the camera on a rated bracket or pole with a clear view of the area, allowing safe access for maintenance within the hazardous-area procedures.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DH-EPC230U

Q.01

What does explosion-proof certification mean for this camera?

The housing is certified to ATEX and IECEx with marking Ex db IIC T6 Gb for gas and Ex tb IIIC T80C Db for dust. The flameproof enclosure contains any internal spark so it cannot ignite the surrounding atmosphere, allowing safe use in classified hazardous areas where a standard camera would be a risk.
Q.02

Which hazardous zones is it rated for?

It suits Zone 1 and Zone 2 explosive gas atmospheres and Zone 21 and Zone 22 combustible dust atmospheres, typical of oil and gas, refining, chemical plants, pipelines and grain handling. Always confirm the equipment marking matches the zone, gas group and temperature class of your specific site.
Q.03

Does it need special installation?

Yes. As a certified explosion-protected device it must be selected, installed, cabled and commissioned by personnel qualified for hazardous-area work, following the marking, the installation manual and local regulations. The flameproof cable entries and earthing must be completed correctly to maintain the certification.
Q.04

How far does it see, day and night?

The 30x optical zoom on a 2MP sensor gives a published identify range around 186m in good light, suitable for monitoring large plant areas. A Smart IR illuminator reaches up to 100m at night, and Starlight low-light imaging holds usable detail in dim conditions.
Q.05

Is the housing suitable for corrosive sites?

Yes. The 304 stainless steel housing with an IP68 rating resists corrosion, dust and water in coastal, chemical and washdown environments. It operates from -40C to +60C, covering hot processing areas and cold outdoor plant.
Q.06

How is it powered?

It runs on AC220V mains or Hi-PoE. Hi-PoE carries power and data over network cabling, while AC mains suits sites with existing high-voltage supply. Size the supply and any injector for the camera load and follow the hazardous-area wiring requirements for the chosen method.
Q.07

Does it perform human and vehicle detection?

It includes IVS analytics such as tripwire, intrusion, abandoned and missing object, face detection and heat map. It does not provide the SMD human and vehicle classification found on Dahua WizSense cameras, so its smart alerts are rule-based rather than target-classified.
Q.08

Does it record audio?

It provides line-level audio in and out connections for external devices, but it has no built-in microphone or speaker. On its own it does not capture on-site audio or support two-way talk.
