§ 01Overview

What the DHI-ITC215-PW6M-IRLZF-B is

The Dahua DHI-ITC215-PW6M-IRLZF-B is a 2MP ANPR camera built specifically for short-range vehicle entries such as boom gates, residential estate gates and car park lanes.

Unlike a general surveillance camera, it runs a dedicated number plate recognition engine that reads the plate and identifies vehicle attributes including type, logo, series and colour, and can flag vehicles with no visible plate.

The manufacturer datasheet lists a capture range of around 3 to 6m and a maximum detected vehicle speed of 30km/h, so it is designed for slow-moving or stationary vehicles at a defined stop point rather than open roads.

A motorised 3.2-10.5mm lens lets you frame the capture zone precisely from the recorder after mounting, which simplifies set-up in tight lanes.

A built-in IR illuminator (rated to 12m) keeps plate capture working day and night without external lighting, and a 96dB WDR sensor holds detail against backlight and headlight glare.

Alarm inputs and relay outputs let the camera trigger a boom barrier or gate directly on a recognised plate.

The IP67 metal-and-plastic housing suits outdoor entries, and it powers from 12V DC, 24V AC or PoE+.

To use the plate database, allow and block lists and event search end to end, pair it with a Dahua recorder or platform that supports ANPR.

It has line-level audio terminals but no built-in microphone, so it does not record on-site audio on its own.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DHI-ITC215-PW6M-IRLZF-B

Built for plate capture, not just video

A dedicated ANPR engine reads plates and vehicle attributes at a controlled entry, returning structured data rather than footage to review.

Triggers the gate itself

Relay outputs let a recognised plate open a boom barrier directly, simplifying single-lane access without a separate controller.

Reliable day-and-night reads

Built-in IR to 12m and a 96dB WDR sensor keep plates legible against darkness, backlight and headlight glare.

Quick to frame and weatherproof

A motorised 3.2-10.5mm lens sets the capture zone from the recorder, and an IP67 housing suits exposed outdoor gates.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Boom gates and barriers

Triggers a boom arm on a recognised plate at a single controlled lane, logging each vehicle that enters or exits.

Residential estate entries

Automates access at a gated estate where vehicles slow or stop within the short capture range of the camera.

Car park entry and exit lanes

Captures plates and vehicle attributes for ticketing or permit systems at slow-approach entry and exit points.

Secured facility access

Logs delivery and staff vehicles at a controlled gate, with relay output to integrate with barrier hardware.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

Mount for a perpendicular plate view

Fix the camera so it has a near-straight view of the number plate within roughly 3 to 6m, as both distance and angle affect read accuracy. Test with the actual vehicles used at the site.

02

Power with 12V DC, 24V AC or PoE+

Provide PoE+ from a capable switch or injector, or a 12V DC or 24V AC supply. Standard PoE may not deliver enough power for the camera and illuminator.

03

Wire the barrier control

Connect the alarm and relay outputs to your boom gate or barrier controller so a recognised plate can trigger the gate.

04

Set the lens and ANPR rules

Frame the capture zone with the motorised lens from the recorder, then configure plate recognition, allow and block lists on a Dahua ANPR-capable recorder or platform.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DHI-ITC215-PW6M-IRLZF-B

Q.01

What distance and speed does this ANPR camera work at?

The manufacturer datasheet lists a capture range of around 3 to 6m and a maximum detected speed of 30km/h. It is a short-range access camera for controlled entries where vehicles slow or stop at a defined point, such as a boom gate or driveway, rather than open roads or fast approaches. For longer or faster lanes, choose a long-range ANPR model instead.
Q.02

Does it only read number plates, or vehicle details too?

Alongside the plate, the deep-learning engine recognises vehicle type, logo, series and colour, and can flag vehicles that show no plate. This gives richer access logs and helps with incident review, so each entry event records structured vehicle data rather than just video.
Q.03

Can it open a boom gate or barrier directly?

Yes. It has alarm inputs and relay outputs that connect to a boom barrier or gate controller, so a recognised plate can trigger the gate to open. In many single-lane installations this removes the need for a separate trigger device at the entry point.
Q.04

Why does the lens spec differ from some listings?

The official Dahua datasheet for this model lists a motorised 3.2-10.5mm lens. Some third-party listings quote a different range, so we have followed the datasheet figure. The lens is motorised, so you set the exact capture zone from the recorder after mounting.
Q.05

Does it record audio?

No. The camera has line-level audio input and output terminals for connecting external audio devices, but it does not have a built-in microphone or speaker. On its own it does not capture on-site audio.
Q.06

How is it powered?

It accepts 12V DC, 24V AC or PoE+ (802.3at), drawing under 20W. Confirm your switch or injector supplies PoE+ rather than standard PoE, as the camera and its illuminator need the higher power budget for reliable operation.
Q.07

Do I need a special recorder for the ANPR features?

To use plate allow and block lists, vehicle attribute logging and plate event search end to end, pair it with a Dahua recorder or management platform that supports ANPR. The camera performs the recognition itself, but a compatible recorder or platform is needed to store, search and act on the results.
Q.08

Is it suitable for outdoor entries in Australia?

Yes. The metal-and-plastic housing is IP67-rated against dust and water across a -30C to +65C range, suiting exposed gates and lanes. Mount it so the camera has a near-perpendicular view of the plate within the short capture range, as angle and distance both affect read accuracy.
