What the BPR2-W12 is

The Bosch ISC-BPR2-W12 is the detector most rooms in a house or a small office end up with, and the reason is that it is hard to get wrong. There is no sensitivity level to pick: First Step Processing sets it from the amplitude, polarity, slope and timing of the signal, which removes the guesswork a sensitivity pot invites.

A selectable lookdown lens adds three zones directly beneath the detector. That is the part of the room an intruder coming through the window below would otherwise cross unseen, and it is what makes the pattern reach the wall rather than stop short of it.

Dynamic temperature compensation then holds that sensitivity as conditions change, so a person is still identified when the room approaches body heat. The sealed optical chamber keeps drafts and insects away from the optics.

The enclosure is built for the installer. It slides and self-locks, has an integrated bubble level so it sits square, and uses gap-free lift-gate terminal blocks rather than screws that drop into the cavity.

Be clear about what it is not. This is the standard model: it carries no pet allowance, it is a single-technology PIR, and it cannot be used outdoors. Mounted 2.2 m to 2.75 m up with no adjustment needed, it draws 10 mA at 12 VDC, so the panel supply is rarely the constraint.

Installation & setup

  1. What is in the box

    The Bosch ISC-BPR2-W12 comes with a hardware pack holding two anchors, two screws and a cable tie, plus an installation guide. Brackets, cable and end-of-line resistors are ordered separately.

  2. Where to mount it

    The recommended height is 2.2 m to 2.75 m, with no adjustment required at that height. Fit it flat on a wall surface or semi-flush, in a corner, or on the optional B328 gimbal, B335-3 low-profile swivel or B338 universal ceiling bracket, using the integrated bubble level to sit it square.

  3. Setting the lookdown

    The lookdown lens is selectable, so decide whether the area directly beneath the detector needs covering. In a room with a window below the mounting position, it usually does.

  4. Cabling

    Run one cable from the panel carrying the 9 VDC to 15 VDC supply, the Form A normally-closed alarm relay and the normally-closed tamper, taking the tamper to a 24-hour protection circuit and fitting the end-of-line resistors the panel requires. The lift-gate terminal blocks take the conductors without loose screws.

  5. Power

    The detector draws 10 mA at 12 VDC from a 9 VDC to 15 VDC supply. That is a very light load to plan for when the panel supply is worked out.

  6. Commissioning

    There is no sensitivity to set, so walk test using the externally visible alarm LED and then disable that LED once the pattern is confirmed.

  7. When to call an electrician

    The detector runs on low voltage from the alarm panel and needs no mains work. Use a licensed electrician for any new or altered fixed wiring, and a licensed security installer for the panel programming.
