Bosch Glass Break Detector DS1101i

SKU: DS1101I
Description

The Bosch DS1101i is a glass-break detector that listens for the specific sound of breaking glass using microprocessor-based Sound Analysis Technology (SAT). It protects windows and glass doors out to 7.6 m and works with plate, tempered, laminated and wired glass. A built-in environmental test helps the installer spot false-alarm sources, and a sound-check lets the user confirm it is powered by clapping. It is a wired detector that mounts on the ceiling or a nearby wall and works as part of a perimeter alongside motion sensors.

§ 01Overview

What the DS1101I is

The Bosch DS1101i is a glass-break detector that adds a layer of protection by listening for the distinctive sound of breaking glass. It uses microprocessor-based Sound Analysis Technology (SAT), which checks the frequency, signature and timing of a sound before it alarms, so it responds to genuine glass breakage while ignoring everyday household noise. It works with plate, tempered, laminated and wired glass.

It is straightforward to position and live with. The round, low-profile detector mounts on the ceiling or on a wall opposite or adjacent to the window it is protecting, with a standard coverage of 7.6 m for glass panes larger than about 30 x 30 cm (coverage depends on room acoustics and window size). A built-in environmental test alerts the installer to possible false-alarm sources in noisy rooms, and an automatic sound-check lets the end user confirm the detector is powered and working by clapping. The externally visible alarm LED can be disabled, or set to latch, after installation.

Two honest points. A glass-break detector is intended as one part of a perimeter system - Bosch advises always using it together with motion sensors rather than on its own. And it is a wired detector: it connects to the panel through a Form C reed relay and a tamper output, running on 6 to 15 VDC. It is genuine Bosch stock with local 3-year warranty.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DS1101I

Catches the break, not the noise

Sound Analysis Technology checks frequency, signature and timing so it responds to glass breaking, not everyday sounds.

Works on most glass

Detects plate, tempered, laminated and wired glass for windows and glass doors.

Easy to verify

A built-in environmental test and a clap sound-check make commissioning and everyday checks simple.

Flexible mounting

A round, low-profile unit fits on the ceiling or a nearby wall to suit the room.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Windows and glass doors

Protect a room full of windows so a break is caught the moment the glass goes.

Perimeter-first protection

Add it alongside motion detectors to catch an intruder at the glass before they are inside.

Shopfronts and offices

Cover large glazed areas in commercial spaces where smashing glass is a common entry method.

Rooms with limited motion coverage

Back up a PIR with glass-break detection where furniture or layout leaves blind spots near windows.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

What's in the box

One DS1101i glass-break detector. The alarm panel, cabling and the optional DS1110i glass-break tester are not included.

02

Installation requirements

Mount the round detector on the ceiling, or on a wall opposite or adjacent to the protected window, with a clear acoustic path to the glass and away from curtains or noise sources. Wire the Form C relay alarm output to a detection zone and the tamper to a 24-hour circuit, power it from 6-15 VDC, then run the environmental test and verify catch performance (the DS1110i tester helps). Always pair it with motion sensors as part of the perimeter.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DS1101I

Q.01

How does the DS1101i detect a break-in through glass?

It listens with microprocessor-based Sound Analysis Technology, which analyses the frequency, signature and timing of a sound and only alarms when they match breaking glass. That lets it respond to a genuine break while ignoring everyday household noise.
Q.02

Which types of glass does it work with?

It detects breakage of plate, tempered, laminated and wired glass, which covers most domestic and commercial windows and glass doors.
Q.03

How far does it reach?

Standard coverage is 7.6 m (25 ft) for glass panes larger than about 30 x 30 cm. Real coverage depends on room acoustics and window size, so position it with a clear acoustic path to the glass.
Q.04

Where should I mount it?

Mount the round detector on the ceiling, or on a wall opposite or adjacent to the window you want to protect. Avoid hiding it behind curtains or furniture that would block the sound.
Q.05

Can it be used on its own?

No. A glass-break detector is intended only as part of a system and should always be used together with motion sensors, so an intruder is still detected if they enter by another route.
Q.06

Is it wired or wireless?

It is a wired detector. It connects to the alarm panel through a Form C reed relay alarm output and a tamper output and runs on 6 to 15 VDC, suiting hardwired zones on a Bosch or compatible panel.
Q.07

How do I test that it is working?

It has a built-in environmental test that alerts the installer to false-alarm sources, and an automatic sound-check that lets the user clap to confirm the detector is powered and responding. The optional DS1110i tester is used to verify catch performance during commissioning.
