Bosch Blue Line Quad PIR Detector 12m BPQ2-W12

SKU: BPQ2-W12
Description

The Bosch BPQ2-W12 is a Blue Line Gen2 Quad PIR motion detector. It uses two independent PIR sensors that must both detect a target before it raises an alarm, which gives strong, fast catch performance while filtering out the noise and minor disturbances that cause false alarms. It covers 12 m x 12 m wall-to-wall and is a wired detector for a hardwired Bosch alarm panel.

Key points
- Quad PIR: two independent PIR sensors must both activate to alarm
- 12 m x 12 m (40 ft) wall-to-wall coverage, 99° angle
- First Step Processing and dynamic temperature compensation
- Sealed optics and electronics for reliable performance
- Wired detector: normally-closed relay alarm output plus tamper
- Mounting height 2.2 m to 2.75 m, no field adjustments; EN50131 Grade 2
- Note: this is not a pet-immune model; for pets choose a TriTech WP detector

§ 01Overview

What the BPQ2-W12 is

The Bosch BPQ2-W12 is a Blue Line Gen2 Quad PIR detector built for dependable catch performance. Rather than one PIR sensor, it uses two that each process the signal separately, and both must activate before it generates an alarm. The result is fast, reliable detection of a real intruder while small disturbances and noise that would trigger a single PIR are filtered out, reducing false alarms.

It is easy to install and trust. First Step Processing sets the sensitivity automatically based on signal amplitude, polarity, slope and timing, so there is nothing to adjust in the field, and dynamic temperature compensation keeps it accurate from cold mornings to hot afternoons. The optics and electronics are sealed into the front enclosure to keep drafts and insects out, and the externally visible alarm LED can be disabled after setup. Coverage is 12 m x 12 m wall-to-wall at a 99° angle.

Two honest points: it is a wired detector with a normally-closed relay output and tamper, made for a hardwired Bosch alarm panel, not a wireless unit. And while its dual-PIR design rejects a lot of false-alarm sources, it is not a pet-immunity model — for homes with pets, choose a pet-friendly TriTech detector such as the BDL2-WP12G instead. The BPQ2-W12 is EN50131 Grade 2 certified and genuine Bosch stock with local warranty.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the BPQ2-W12

Dependable catch performance

Two PIR sensors that must agree give quick, reliable detection of a genuine intruder across the whole 12 m pattern.

Fewer nuisance trips

Requiring both sensors to activate, plus First Step Processing, rejects the small disturbances that make single-PIR detectors false-alarm.

Nothing to adjust

Automatic sensitivity and built-in temperature compensation mean you mount it at the right height and walk-test — no field tuning.

Flexible mounting

Wall, corner or ceiling mounting with optional brackets lets you aim the coverage where the room needs it.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Living rooms and offices

Cover a 12 m x 12 m room wall-to-wall from a single wall or corner position.

Pet-free areas

Protect rooms without pets where catch performance and false-alarm rejection matter most.

Hallways and entries

Watch a corridor or entry where you want fast, reliable detection of anyone moving through.

Upgrading an unreliable detector

Replace an older PIR that nuisance-trips with a dual-PIR detector for steadier operation.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

What's in the box

One BPQ2-W12 Blue Line Gen2 Quad PIR detector with an installation kit (anchors, screws, cable tie and setup guide). The alarm panel and cabling are not included.

02

Installation requirements

Mount it level on a wall or in a corner at 2.2 m to 2.75 m, or on a ceiling with the optional B338 bracket. Wire the normally-closed alarm output to a detection zone and the tamper to a 24-hour circuit on your panel, then walk-test the coverage before arming. No field sensitivity adjustment is required.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the BPQ2-W12

Q.01

What is a Quad PIR and how is it different from a normal PIR?

A Quad PIR uses two separate PIR sensors in one detector, each processing the signal on its own, and both have to agree before it raises an alarm. That gives quick, reliable detection of a real intruder while rejecting the small disturbances that can make a single-PIR detector false-alarm.
Q.02

Is the BPQ2-W12 pet-immune?

No. It is a Quad PIR built for catch performance and false-alarm rejection, not a pet-immunity model, and the datasheet does not list a pet-immunity rating. If you have pets, choose a pet-friendly TriTech detector such as the BDL2-WP12G, which can ignore animals up to 45 kg when its pet mode is on.
Q.03

Is it wired or wireless?

It is a wired detector. It has a normally-closed relay alarm output and a tamper output and connects by cable to a hardwired alarm panel such as a Bosch Solution system.
Q.04

How much area does it cover?

It covers 12 m x 12 m, about 40 ft by 40 ft, wall-to-wall at a 99 degree angle, which suits most living rooms, offices and similar rooms from a wall or corner position.
Q.05

How high should I mount it and does it need adjusting?

Mount it at 2.2 m to 2.75 m. No field adjustments are required within that range, because First Step Processing sets the sensitivity automatically and temperature compensation is built in. Just mount it level and walk-test the coverage.
Q.06

Can I mount it on the ceiling or in a corner?

It mounts on a flat wall, in a corner, or on the ceiling using the optional B338 universal ceiling-mount bracket, plus optional swivel and gimbal brackets for wall installations, so you can aim it to suit the room.
Q.07

What stops false alarms from sunlight or heaters?

The dual-PIR design needs both sensors to agree, and First Step Processing plus dynamic temperature compensation filter out heat changes and minor disturbances, so everyday sources like sunlight, heaters and air movement are far less likely to trigger it.
