Recommended Accessory Specifications

Surveillance Hard Drives:
WD Purple — 5400 RPM, 64-256MB cache, AllFrame technology for surveillance. Available 2TB to 10TB.
Seagate SkyHawk — 5400 / 7200 RPM, ImagePerfect firmware. Available 2TB to 10TB.
Sizing: 4TB ≈ 30 days from 4 cameras at 6MP H.265+ continuous; 8TB for 8 cameras at 6MP.

Cat6 Ethernet Cable:
UTP for indoor / drop ceiling runs. External-grade UV-stabilised PVC for outdoor runs. Pure copper conductor (avoid CCA — copper-clad aluminium fails at PoE distance). Maximum run: 100m per camera.

PoE Switch:
IEEE 802.3af (15W per port) or 802.3at (30W per port for PTZ / Smart Hybrid Light cameras). Choose port count based on camera-count overflow beyond NVR built-in PoE.

Mount Brackets:
Match to specific camera model — genuine Hikvision, Dahua, and HiLook brackets ensure correct fitment, weatherproofing, and aesthetic finish. Wall mount, pendant mount, pole mount, and corner mount variants available depending on camera form factor.

WD Purple vs Seagate SkyHawk — Which Surveillance HDD?

WD Purple — Western Digital's surveillance line. AllFrame technology reduces frame loss in multi-camera writes. Quieter operation. Tested for up to 64 cameras simultaneously on premium tier (Pro variants). Standard residential choice.

Seagate SkyHawk — Seagate's surveillance line. ImagePerfect firmware optimised for sustained write workloads. Slightly higher RPM options available (7200 RPM Pro variants for commercial use). Equivalent residential performance to WD Purple.

Either is the right choice for residential and small commercial NVR installations. Avoid standard desktop drives entirely — WD Blue, Seagate BarraCuda, etc. are not engineered for 24/7 surveillance and will fail prematurely.

Capacity guide:
• 4 cameras at 6MP → 4TB ≈ 30 days continuous
• 8 cameras at 6MP → 6-8TB
• 4 cameras at 4K → 6TB
• 8 cameras at 4K → 8-10TB
Motion-only recording typically extends duration 3-5x.

Genuine Manufacturer Brackets
Genuine Hikvision, Dahua, and HiLook mounting brackets and junction boxes ensure perfect camera fitment with no alignment compromises. Generic brackets often have sub-millimetre fitment issues that compromise weatherproofing or aiming. Smarket stocks the correct genuine bracket for each camera model.

Surveillance-Grade Storage Only
WD Purple and Seagate SkyHawk hard drives are engineered for 24/7 surveillance write workloads — different firmware, sustained write performance, and vibration tolerance compared to desktop drives. Standard desktop drives fail prematurely in NVRs (typically within 12-18 months). Always use surveillance-rated storage.
