The Hikvision DS-2DE4425IW-DE(T5) is a 4MP outdoor PTZ speed dome for large open areas such as car parks, yards and perimeters, where you need both a wide overview and the reach to zoom in on a distant subject. Its 25x optical zoom spans a 4.8-120mm motorised lens, so it goes from a broad situational view to reading a vehicle at distance, and 360-degree endless pan with -15 to 90 degree tilt covers a full sweep.

At night, infrared reaches up to about 100 metres, and a 1/2.8" DarkFighter sensor with 120dB WDR keeps usable images in low light and against headlight glare. Deep-learning analytics classify people and vehicles and can capture faces, which helps cut false alarms across a wide scene. Up to 300 presets, 8 patrols and pattern scans let you automate scanning routines.

Two practical points from installers: it needs PoE+ (802.3at, up to about 18W) rather than standard PoE because of the motor, heater and IR load; and the built-in auto-tracking works but is not flawless, sometimes hunting at partial zoom, so tune the zoom ratio and tracking duration for your site or rely on presets and patrols. Audio is via an external line in/out interface (no built-in microphone), and the IP66 housing adds TVS 6000V surge protection for exposed poles.

Installation & setup

Power

It needs PoE+ (802.3at, up to about 18W) or 12V DC. Standard PoE (about 15W) will not run it reliably, so confirm the switch or NVR port is PoE+.

Mounting

Mount on a pole, wall or pendant with a rated PTZ bracket and allow full 360-degree pan and tilt clearance. The unit is about 2kg.

Cabling

Run one Cat5e/6 cable, maximum 100m; shielded cable is recommended near power lines, with proper surge grounding.

Setup

In Australia a network camera is usually fitted by a licensed security installer or a competent IT/cabling technician, who runs the Cat5e/6 cable, terminates the RJ45, mounts the unit and adds it to the NVR or app. Add it in your NVR or Hik-Connect, set presets and patrols, and tune tracking duration if you use auto-tracking.
