What the DS-2CD2546G2-IWS is
The Hikvision DS-2CD2546G2-IWS is a 4 MP AcuSense mini dome with built-in Wi-Fi, aimed at spots where pulling a data cable is awkward, such as a rented home, a heritage wall or a detached garage.
It joins your 2.4 GHz wireless network, so you only need to get power to the camera; it also keeps a wired network port if you decide to run a cable later.
AcuSense deep-learning analytics classify human and vehicle targets, so motion, line-crossing and intrusion alerts trigger on people and cars rather than cats, rain or moving branches.
A built-in microphone records audio with the video, and audio and alarm terminals let you add an external speaker or sensor.
EXIR infrared lights the scene up to 30 m at night; as with any infrared camera, the night image is black and white.
120 dB WDR keeps detail when bright sun hits a shaded entry.
The metal dome is rated IP67 against dust and rain and IK08 against knocks, so it works indoors or out.
Choose a 2.8 mm or 4 mm lens for a wider or tighter view, and power it over PoE or 12 VDC.
For the steadiest video, mount it within good Wi-Fi range of your router or access point, and record it to a Hikvision AcuSense NVR or a microSD card.
Note it has a microphone for recording but no built-in speaker, so it captures sound rather than offering two-way talk-back.

One DS-2CD2546G2-IWS Wi-Fi mini dome camera with a mounting template, fixings and a quick guide. The power supply, microSD card, network cable and any NVR are supplied separately.
Installation requirements
Mount it within good 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi range of your router or access point, then power it over 12 VDC or PoE. Join it to your Wi-Fi in the Hik-Connect app or web interface, set the AcuSense rules, and record to a microSD card or a Hikvision AcuSense NVR.

Does the DS-2CD2546G2-IWS still need any cabling?
It connects to your network over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, so you do not need to run a data cable, but you still need to get power to it. Run a short 12 VDC supply or use PoE if a network cable is easy to reach; the Wi-Fi simply removes the long data run back to the recorder.

How good does the Wi-Fi need to be?
It uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, which travels further through walls than 5 GHz but is more crowded. For smooth video, mount the camera within solid signal range of your router or a Wi-Fi access point; thick walls, metal sheds and distance will reduce the quality, so test the spot before you fix it permanently.

No. It uses EXIR infrared up to 30 m, so the night image is black and white. It records colour during the day and in lit areas; for full colour at night you would need a ColorVu or white-light camera.

AcuSense deep-learning analytics classify human and vehicle targets, so motion, line-crossing and intrusion alerts trigger on people and cars and skip animals, rain and moving plants. That is especially handy over Wi-Fi, where you do not want a flood of pointless notifications.

Does it have two-way audio?
It has a built-in microphone that records audio, plus audio and alarm terminals for external devices, but it does not have a built-in speaker, so it does not offer two-way talk-back on its own. For talk-back, choose a model listed with two-way audio or a built-in speaker.

Yes. It keeps a standard RJ45 network port, so you can run it wired over PoE or 12 VDC if you change your mind or the Wi-Fi is unreliable in that spot. Many installers wire the cameras they can reach and use Wi-Fi only where cabling is impractical.
