The Hikvision DS-2CD2542FWD-IS is a 4 MP outdoor mini dome built for close-range jobs where a small, tough camera matters more than long-distance reach.

The 1/3" sensor captures 2688 x 1520 video, and 120 dB WDR with 3D digital noise reduction keeps the image clean when a bright doorway sits next to a shaded hallway.

A built-in microphone records audio with the video, and the camera also has audio and alarm input and output terminals if you want to add an external mic, a speaker or a sensor.

At night, EXIR infrared lights the scene up to about 10 m, so it is well suited to a porch, entry, lift lobby or small shop rather than a long driveway.

The footage at night is black and white, as with any infrared camera.

The metal dome is rated IP66 against dust and rain and IK08 against knocks and tampering, which makes it a sensible choice for an exposed entry or a public-facing wall.

Choose a 2.8 mm, 4 mm or 6 mm lens to set how wide or tight the view is, power it over PoE or 12 VDC, and add a microSD card up to 128 GB for local recording or record it to an NVR.
