What the DS-UPS600  is

The Hikvision DS-UPS600 is a back-up type uninterruptible power supply rated at 600VA / 360W, sized for a single CCTV recorder or a small camera system. When the mains fails or dips, it switches to its internal battery in 10 milliseconds or less, so a DVR or NVR keeps running and can shut down safely rather than losing footage or risking the hard drive.

It runs from a 220-240 VAC input at 50/60 Hz and protects the connected equipment with overload, discharge and overcharge protection, while an LED shows mains, charging and overload states with audible alarm tones. Runtime depends on the load: at a light load of around 60W it can run for roughly half an hour, with the time falling as the load increases, so it is best matched to a small recorder rather than a large multi-bay system. As with the larger DS-UPS1000, the battery-mode output is a PWM stepped (simulated) waveform rather than a pure sine wave, which suits DVRs, NVRs, modems and routers.

Power comes from a single 12V/7Ah rechargeable lead-acid battery, with a typical recharge time of 10 to 16 hours.   1. Check your load

    Add up the wattage of the recorder and anything else you will plug in, keeping it well under the 360W rating.

  2. Charge first

    Charge the UPS before relying on it; the battery takes a typical 10-16 hours to recharge.

    Plug the DVR or NVR (and a modem if needed) into the UPS outlets, then route mains in from the wall.
