§ 01Overview

What the DS-2CD2386G2H-IU is

This Hikvision 8 MP 8-channel kit is a complete eight-camera system supplied ready to record, built around the DS-2CD2386G2H-IU turret.

It combines eight of these cameras with an eight-channel DS-7608NI-I2/8P PoE NVR and a 4 TB surveillance hard drive already fitted, so each camera connects on a single network cable and the recorder is set up to capture all eight channels from the start.

The turret cameras are a strong all-rounder.

Each is an 8 MP (4K) camera with a bright F1.0 lens and Powered-by-DarkFighter low-light imaging, which is the standout here: with even a little ambient light, such as a street lamp or porch light, they hold clean, detailed images at night.

AcuSense deep learning classifies human and vehicle targets so alerts and searches ignore rain, shadows and animals, and 120 dB wide dynamic range balances bright and dark areas.

Each camera also has a built-in microphone, so the kit records audio alongside the video; being a microphone-only camera, it is not a two-way intercom.

A couple of honest notes so it is set up correctly.

These are infrared cameras with a 30 metre range, so in complete darkness the night image is infrared black and white; the F1.0 DarkFighter sensor gives the best low-light colour where some ambient light is present, but this is not a white-light ColorVu kit that films in full colour all night.

The IP67 metal bodies suit outdoor walls and eaves.

The 4 TB drive is included as standard, and H.265+ compression keeps storage efficient, with room to fit a larger drive later.

Installation & setup

In the box

Eight DS-2CD2386G2H-IU turret cameras, the DS-7608NI-I2/8P NVR with a 4 TB drive fitted, power supply and mounting accessories. Connect a monitor for local viewing.

Cabling

Run one network cable from each camera to a PoE port on the NVR. Standard Ethernet runs apply, and a PoE switch can extend reach for distant cameras.

Mounting

Fix each turret to a wall or eave covering an entrance, driveway or open area within the 30 metre infrared range, and aim using the three-axis turret movement.

Setup

Connect the NVR to a screen and the network, add the cameras on the plug-and-play PoE ports, set the AcuSense rules, recording schedule and audio recording where permitted, and set up remote viewing in the Hik-Connect app.

Is the kit ready to record out of the box?

What is special about the F1.0 lens and DarkFighter?
The bright F1.0 lens lets in more light than a standard lens, and Powered-by-DarkFighter sensor technology turns that into clean, detailed images in low light. Where there is some ambient light, such as a street or porch light, these cameras hold strong colour detail at night, well above a basic camera.

Do the cameras film in full colour all night?
Only where there is some ambient light, thanks to the bright F1.0 DarkFighter sensor. In complete darkness they switch to 30 metre infrared, so the image is black and white. They do not have a white-light supplement, so for guaranteed full-colour footage in total darkness you would choose a ColorVu kit.

Do the cameras record sound?
Yes. The DS-2CD2386G2H-IU has a built-in microphone, so the kit records audio together with the video. It is a microphone-only camera, not a two-way intercom, so you cannot speak back through it. Confirm that recording audio is permitted for your site before enabling it.

What does AcuSense do?
AcuSense uses on-camera deep learning to classify human and vehicle targets and ignore other movement such as rain, leaves or animals. The system alerts you to what matters, cuts false alarms, and lets you search recordings by human or vehicle events rather than scrubbing through footage.

Is the kit full, or can I add more cameras?
The recorder is an eight-channel NVR and the kit uses all eight channels, so it is complete as supplied. To add more cameras you would step up to a larger recorder, such as a 16-channel NVR, and use a PoE switch for the extra ports.

How much will the 4 TB drive store?
The included 4 TB surveillance drive gives generous everyday retention for eight 8 MP cameras, helped by H.265+ compression. Exact days depend on motion, frame rate and quality, and a larger drive can be fitted for longer retention.

Are the cameras suitable for outdoors?
Yes. The turret cameras are IP67 rated against dust and water in a metal body, so they suit outdoor walls and eaves as well as indoor positions, with 30 metre infrared for night coverage and the three-axis turret mount for easy aiming.
