    This 8-camera kit is the night-vision pick of our Hikvision range, scaled to a full house: eight DS-2CD2366G2H-IU turrets — the newer G2H generation with F1.0 lenses rated 0.001 lux in colour — on the 8-channel DS-7608NI-M2/8P recorder with a pre-installed 4TB surveillance drive.

    Eight cameras is a complete perimeter for most homes: the four corners, the front porch and the blind side, plus a driveway view and a rear-of-property or interior position — coverage with no obvious gap left for someone to slip through.

    Every position gets the G2H's wide 114.8° view and over twice the light-gathering of the standard G2 — colour off ambient glow where older sensors have gone to grey infrared — plus a built-in microphone for audio context.

    The eight cameras fill every channel and PoE port on the recorder, so plan all eight positions up front.

    Installation Requirements

    1. Each camera needs one Ethernet run back to the NVR — the PoE ports carry power and video together, up to 100m per run. 2. Mount on a solid wall or eave; under-eave positions keep lenses clear of direct rain and afternoon sun. 3. Connect the NVR to your router with a short Ethernet patch lead for remote viewing — works on all NBN connection types.

    App Setup

    1. Activate the NVR with a strong password on first boot, then add it to the Hik-Connect app by scanning the QR code on the NVR screen. 2. Enable push notifications in Hik-Connect so AcuSense human and vehicle alerts reach your phone. 3. Draw each camera's line crossing and intrusion zones tight to your own property, with target type set to human and vehicle.

    Is this kit ready to use out of the box?
    Yes — the 4TB drive comes installed and formatted, and the PoE ports power all six cameras. Mount the cameras, run one Ethernet line from each to the NVR, and recording starts automatically at default settings.

    How long will the 4TB drive keep footage?
    Around 1-2 weeks of continuous recording from eight 6MP cameras (roughly 40GB per camera per day), and a month or more on motion-only recording. The NVR overwrites the oldest footage automatically — for longer retention, upgrade the drive with the kit customiser before checkout.

    Can I add more cameras later?
    Yes — the 8CH NVR has two spare PoE channels, and any current Hikvision PoE camera plugs straight in. The same G2H-IU turret keeps the night performance consistent — or add a strobe-equipped SL model for a deterrence corner.

    How far can the cameras see at night?
    Each turret's F1.0 lens records colour down to 0.001 lux — over twice the light-gathering of the standard G2 generation — then switches to smart infrared with a 30-metre range in full darkness. Number plates still need daylight or good lighting: glare and headlights work against any camera at night.

    Do these cameras record audio?
    Yes — every G2H-IU in this kit has a built-in microphone, adding audio context to recordings. There are no speakers, so the cameras can't talk back. Check your state's listening-device rules before recording audio in shared spaces.

    What does AcuSense actually do?
    Each camera classifies what triggered an event — human, vehicle, or neither — using deep learning on the camera itself, and line crossing, intrusion and region entry/exit zones trigger only on the target types you choose. Far fewer junk notifications get through than pixel-based motion detection.

    Can this kit warn intruders off, like cameras with sirens?
    Not this one — these are quiet cameras that record and alert. If you want a camera that answers back, add the G2-ISU/SL (strobe, audible warnings, two-way talk) to an approach, or look at the Dahua TiOC family for red and blue lights and a siren.

    What does the NVR actually do beyond recording?
    It powers every camera over its PoE ports, keeps all channels on one timeline with AcuSense events flagged for fast review, and handles remote viewing through Hik-Connect — one app for live view, playback and alerts.

    Do I need to pay any subscription?
    No. Recording, AcuSense detection and remote viewing through the Hik-Connect app all run on your own hardware — no monthly fees and no cloud account requirement beyond the free app login.

    Can I view the cameras on my phone away from home?
    Yes — add the NVR to Hik-Connect via its QR code, and live view plus playback work over the internet. The system also works fully offline if you prefer no outside access.

    Will it work without internet?
    Yes. Cameras record to the NVR on a closed local network. Internet is only needed for remote viewing and push notifications.

    Is a Hikvision system safe to use in Australia?
    Hikvision equipment was removed from federal government sites in 2023 as a precaution, and there is no restriction on private or business use. This kit records locally to its own NVR, needs no cloud account, and supports HTTPS and TLS encryption. On an isolated network it still records normally.

    What does the 3-year warranty cover?
    Defects in the cameras and NVR for 3 years. The hard drive carries its own manufacturer warranty terms, and installation labour is not covered.

    What if I want colour at night and active deterrence?
    These AcuSense kits record quietly in infrared and never light up. For full-colour night footage and cameras that warn intruders off with a strobe and voice, the ColorVu kits do that with the same human and vehicle AI.
