This 6-camera kit is the night-vision pick of our Hikvision range: six DS-2CD2366G2H-IU turrets — the newer G2H generation with F1.0 lenses rated 0.001 lux in colour — on the 8-channel DS-7608NI-M2/8P recorder with a pre-installed 4TB surveillance drive.

Six cameras suits a two-storey home or a corner block: the four approaches plus the porch close-up and the blind side a four-camera layout leaves open. Every position gets the G2H's wide 114.8° view and over twice the light-gathering of the standard G2 — colour off ambient glow where older sensors have gone to grey infrared — plus a built-in microphone for audio context.

Installation Requirements

1. Each camera needs one Ethernet run back to the NVR — the PoE ports carry power and video together, up to 100m per run. 2. Mount on a solid wall or eave; under-eave positions keep lenses clear of direct rain and afternoon sun. 3. Connect the NVR to your router with a short Ethernet patch lead for remote viewing — works on all NBN connection types.

App Setup

1. Activate the NVR with a strong password on first boot, then add it to the Hik-Connect app by scanning the QR code on the NVR screen. 2. Enable push notifications in Hik-Connect so AcuSense human and vehicle alerts reach your phone. 3. Draw each camera's line crossing and intrusion zones tight to your own property, with target type set to human and vehicle.

Is the 6-camera G2H kit ready to use out of the box?
Yes — the 4TB drive comes installed and formatted, and the PoE ports power all six cameras. Mount the cameras, run one Ethernet line from each to the NVR, and recording starts automatically at default settings.

How long will the 4TB drive keep footage from six cameras?
Around 2 weeks of continuous recording from six 6MP cameras (roughly 40GB per camera per day), and a month or more on motion-only recording. The NVR overwrites the oldest footage automatically — for longer retention, upgrade the drive with the kit customiser before checkout.

Can I add a seventh or eighth camera later?
Yes — the 8CH NVR has two spare PoE channels, and any current Hikvision PoE camera plugs straight in. The same G2H-IU turret keeps the night performance consistent — or add a strobe-equipped SL model for a deterrence corner.

How far can the cameras see at night?

Do these cameras record audio?
Yes — every G2H-IU in this kit has a built-in microphone, adding audio context to recordings. There are no speakers, so the cameras can't talk back. Check your state's listening-device rules before recording audio in shared spaces.

What does AcuSense actually do?
Each of the six cameras classifies its own triggers, person, vehicle or neither, before anything reaches your phone, so one windy night does not become sixty notifications. Zones per camera fire only on the target types you choose, and the recorder logs events pre-sorted for fast search.

Can this kit warn intruders off, like cameras with sirens?
Not this one — these are quiet cameras that record and alert. If you want a camera that answers back, add the G2-ISU/SL (strobe, audible warnings, two-way talk) to an approach, or look at the Dahua TiOC family for red and blue lights and a siren.

What does the NVR actually do beyond recording?
It powers every camera over its PoE ports, keeps all channels on one timeline with AcuSense events flagged for fast review, and handles remote viewing through Hik-Connect — one app for live view, playback and alerts.

No. Recording, AcuSense detection and remote viewing through the Hik-Connect app all run on your own hardware — no monthly fees and no cloud account requirement beyond the free app login.

Can I view the cameras on my phone away from home?
Yes — add the NVR to Hik-Connect via its QR code, and live view plus playback work over the internet. The system also works fully offline if you prefer no outside access.

Will it work without internet?
Yes. Cameras record to the NVR on a closed local network. Internet is only needed for remote viewing and push notifications.

Is a Hikvision system safe to use in Australia?
Hikvision equipment was removed from federal government sites in 2023 as a precaution, and there is no restriction on private or business use. This kit records locally to its own NVR, needs no cloud account, and supports HTTPS and TLS encryption. On an isolated network it still records normally.

What does the 3-year warranty cover?
Defects in the cameras and NVR for 3 years. The hard drive carries its own manufacturer warranty terms, and installation labour is not covered.

What if I want colour at night and active deterrence?
That is the ColorVu side of the range: the 6-camera ColorVu 3.0 kit keeps this same layout but every camera records colour at night and answers intruders with a strobe and spoken warning. This G2H kit is the quieter, better-value pick where discreet infrared is the point.

Where do the six cameras go?
The four approaches, front entry, driveway, backyard and side path, plus a porch close-up for faces and parcels and the blind side a four-camera layout misses. On a corner block, point the sixth at the second street frontage instead.

Can I mix in a deterrence camera?
Yes, the two spare channels take any Hikvision PoE camera. The G2H-IS2U/SL adds a strobe, audible warnings and two-way talk on the same sensor, the usual pick for the most exposed approach.
