Four cameras is the standard single-storey layout — entry, driveway, backyard, side access — with AcuSense classification on every camera keeping the alerts to humans and vehicles.

The 0.003 lux DarkFighter sensors hold colour well into the evening, 30m of smart infrared takes over in darkness, and 120dB WDR handles doorways shot against the sun.

This kit uses all four channels; if growth is on the cards, the 6 and 8 camera kits run on an 8CH recorder.

Installation Requirements

1. Each camera needs one Ethernet run back to the NVR — the PoE ports carry power and video together, up to 100m per run. 2. Mount on a solid wall or eave; under-eave positions keep lenses clear of direct rain and afternoon sun. 3. Connect the NVR to your router with a short Ethernet patch lead for remote viewing — works on all NBN connection types.

App Setup

1. Activate the NVR with a strong password on first boot, then add it to the Hik-Connect app by scanning the QR code on the NVR screen. 2. Enable push notifications in Hik-Connect so AcuSense human and vehicle alerts reach your phone. 3. Draw each camera's line crossing and intrusion zones tight to your own property, with target type set to human and vehicle.

About 3 weeks of continuous recording from four 6MP cameras (roughly 40GB per camera per day), and two months or more on motion-only recording. The NVR overwrites the oldest footage automatically — for longer retention, choose a larger drive with the kit customiser before checkout.

Each turret records colour down to 0.003 lux through its DarkFighter sensor, then switches to smart infrared with a 30-metre range in full darkness — the IR self-adjusts so close objects don't white out. Faces are identifiable to about 7.9 metres with the 2.8mm lens; number plates still need daylight or good lighting.

Do these cameras record audio?
No — the G2-I cameras in this kit have no microphones, which suits strata schemes, shared driveways and workplaces where audio recording raises consent issues. If you want audio on a corner or two, add the -IU mic version to your order — same imaging, same AI, same recorder.

What does AcuSense actually do?
Each camera classifies what triggered an event — human, vehicle, or neither — using deep learning on the camera itself, and line crossing, intrusion and region entry/exit zones trigger only on the target types you choose. Far fewer junk notifications get through than pixel-based motion detection.

Can this kit warn intruders off, like cameras with sirens?
Not this one — these are quiet cameras that record and alert. If you want a camera that answers back, add the G2-ISU/SL (strobe, audible warnings, two-way talk) to an approach, or look at the Dahua TiOC family for red and blue lights and a siren.

What does the NVR actually do beyond recording?
It powers every camera over its PoE ports, keeps all channels on one timeline with AcuSense events flagged for fast review, and handles remote viewing through Hik-Connect — one app for live view, playback and alerts.

Do I need to pay any subscription?
No. Recording, AcuSense detection and remote viewing through the Hik-Connect app all run on your own hardware — no monthly fees and no cloud account requirement beyond the free app login.

Can I view the cameras on my phone away from home?
Yes — add the NVR to Hik-Connect via its QR code, and live view plus playback work over the internet. The system also works fully offline if you prefer no outside access.

Will it work without internet?
Yes. Cameras record to the NVR on a closed local network. Internet is only needed for remote viewing and push notifications.

Is a Hikvision system safe to use in Australia?
Hikvision equipment was removed from federal government sites in 2023 as a precaution, and there is no restriction on private or business use. This kit records locally to its own NVR, needs no cloud account, and supports HTTPS and TLS encryption. On an isolated network it still records normally.

What does the 3-year warranty cover?
Defects in the cameras and NVR for 3 years. Any hard drive you add carries its own manufacturer warranty terms, and installation labour is not covered.
