§ 01Overview

What the DH-HAC-HDW2501TMQP-A is

The Dahua DH-HAC-HDW2501TMQP-A is a 5MP HDCVI eyeball camera built for analogue CCTV systems that record over coaxial cable. It suits homeowners and installers upgrading an existing analogue setup to 5MP without re-cabling to network gear, delivering 2880 x 1620 footage with Starlight low-light sensitivity and 120 dB true WDR.

This is an HDCVI camera, so it connects to a Dahua HDCVI XVR or DVR rather than an IP network recorder. To run it at full 5MP, the recorder firmware must support 5MP HDCVI input. A built-in microphone adds one channel of audio over the coax run, and the IP67 metal housing handles outdoor positions. The lens is fixed at 2.8mm and the camera runs on 12 VDC.

What the DH-HAC-HDW2501TMQP-A features actually look like

Representative illustrations of how each key feature performs in a real scene.

60m IR Night Vision

Built-in infrared sees in total darkness up to around 60m, covering long driveways and large properties. Even well away from the house, people and vehicles remain clear in black-and-white.

IP67 Weatherproof

Sealed against dust and water to IP67, built to keep working through rain, storms and harsh sun — suitable for fully outdoor mounting.

DH-HAC-HDW2501TMQP-A specifications

- Resolution: 5MP 1/2.7" CMOS sensor outputs 2880 x 1620 at up to 25 fps for clear, wide 16:9 coverage.

- Starlight low light: Captures usable colour detail in low light before switching to infrared in full darkness.

- True WDR: 120 dB true wide dynamic range balances bright entrances against shaded interiors in one frame.

- Smart IR: Infrared reaches up to 60 m and dims automatically to stop close objects washing out at night.

- Flexible output: One BNC carries CVI, TVI, AHD or CVBS via a DIP switch, so it works with most analogue recorders.

- Built-in microphone: One audio channel is recorded alongside the video on supporting HDCVI recorders.

- Weatherproof: IP67 metal eyeball housing is rated for dust and rain in outdoor Australian conditions.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DH-HAC-HDW2501TMQP-A

Upgrade without re-cabling

Reuse existing coax to lift an older analogue system to 5MP, avoiding the cost of pulling new network cable.

Detail in tough light

Starlight plus 120 dB true WDR keeps faces and plates readable at backlit doorways and dim driveways.

Honest night reach

Smart IR to 60 m is genuine infrared: night footage is sharp black-and-white, not colour, with no glare from close objects.

Simple, sealed install

A fixed 2.8mm lens and IP67 eyeball body make for a quick, weather-sealed outdoor fit.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Analogue system upgrades

Swap an ageing 2MP analogue camera for 5MP on the same coax and recorder, where the recorder supports 5MP HDCVI.

Home entries and carports

The wide 2.8mm view covers a front door, carport or side gate from a single eave position.

Small shops on DVR

Retail counters and storerooms already running a Dahua DVR gain higher resolution and an audio channel.

Mixed-format sites

CVI, TVI, AHD and CVBS output lets it slot into legacy recorders of different brands during a staged upgrade.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

Recorder type

This is an analogue HDCVI camera. Connect it to a Dahua HDCVI XVR or DVR over coax, not to an IP NVR. For 5MP capture, confirm the recorder firmware supports 5MP HDCVI input.

02

Power

Supply 12 VDC from a regulated CCTV power supply or balun-fed source. The camera does not use PoE.

03

Cabling

Run RG59 coax for video and a separate 2-core for 12 VDC, or use a suitable combined siamese cable, keeping runs within HDCVI distance limits.

04

Mounting

Fix the eyeball base to a wall or ceiling, aim the lens, then lock the gimbal. Add a junction box where extra cable space or a cleaner finish is needed.

§ 08Questions

Frequently asked about the DH-HAC-HDW2501TMQP-A

Q.01

Is this an IP camera or an analogue camera?

It is an analogue HDCVI camera that records over coaxial cable. It connects to a Dahua HDCVI XVR or DVR, not to an IP network video recorder.
Q.02

What recorder do I need to get the full 5MP?

You need a Dahua HDCVI XVR or DVR that supports 5MP HDCVI input, with firmware updated to a version that enables 5MP. Older recorders may only capture it at a lower resolution.
Q.03

Does it record in colour at night?

It uses Starlight to hold colour in low light, but in full darkness it switches to infrared and records in black and white. Infrared reaches up to 60 m.
Q.04

Does it have audio?

Yes, it has a built-in microphone for one channel of audio. It does not have a speaker, so it cannot do two-way talk. The recorder must support audio over coax.
Q.05

How is it powered?

It runs on 12 VDC from a regulated CCTV power supply. It does not use PoE, so plan a separate power feed alongside the coax video run.
Q.06

Can it work with my existing non-Dahua DVR?

Often yes. The output switches between CVI, TVI, AHD and CVBS by DIP switch, so it can match many analogue recorders, though full features are best on a Dahua HDCVI recorder.
Q.07

What lens does it have and how wide is the view?

It has a fixed 2.8mm lens giving a wide field of view, well suited to covering a doorway, carport or small yard from one position.
Q.08

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

Yes. The metal eyeball housing is rated IP67 against dust and rain, so it can be mounted under eaves and in exposed outdoor positions.
