Dahua DHI-ARD512-W2 Wireless Glass Break Detector

SKU: DHI-ARD512-W2
Description

The Dahua DHI-ARD512-W2 is a wireless glass-break detector for the Dahua AirShield alarm system. It listens for the specific sound of breaking glass within about 9 metres and raises an alarm before an intruder is through the window, covering tempered, double-glazed, laminated, wired, plate and float glass. It links to your AirShield hub over an encrypted 868 MHz two-way connection and runs on a battery, so there is no wiring to run. An AirShield hub is required and sold separately.

Key points
- Acoustic glass-break detection up to 9 m, for most common glass types
- Dual-frequency listening with algorithms to cut false alarms
- 868 MHz two-way radio with AES128 encryption and frequency hopping
- Range up to 1,600 m in open space to the hub
- Two wired alarm inputs to add third-party detectors
- CR123A battery with around 3 years of life; tamper alarm; indoor use

§ 01Overview

What the DHI-ARD512-W2 is

The Dahua DHI-ARD512-W2 protects windows and glass doors on a Dahua AirShield alarm system by listening for the sound of breaking glass rather than waiting for someone to move inside. Mounted on a wall or ceiling within about 9 metres of the glass, it recognises the break of tempered, double-glazed, laminated, wired, plate and float glass and triggers the alarm at the point of entry.

False alarms are the usual worry with acoustic sensors, so it listens for the low-frequency thud and the high-frequency shatter at the same time and uses an algorithm to tell a real break from everyday noise. The link to the hub is 868 MHz two-way with AES128 encryption and frequency hopping at up to 1,600 m in open space, and it carries a tamper alarm plus two wired alarm inputs so you can bring a couple of third-party wired detectors onto the same point.

Worth knowing before you buy: it is an indoor accessory, not a system on its own. It needs a Dahua AirShield hub to work and is normally paired with motion detectors and a siren. A single CR123A cell runs it for around three years with a low-battery warning, and the whole system is managed from the free DMSS app. It is genuine Australian Dahua stock with local 3-year warranty and support.

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DHI-ARD512-W2

Catches a break-in at the glass

Acoustic detection alarms the instant a window is smashed, before an intruder is inside and moving past a motion sensor.

Built to ignore everyday noise

Dual-frequency listening plus an algorithm confirms a real break, so pots, music and slammed doors do not trip it.

One sensor, several windows

A 9 m range lets a single detector cover a room of windows rather than fitting a contact to each one.

Fit and forget

Around three years on a CR123A cell with a low-battery warning and a tamper alarm keeps maintenance low.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Ground-floor windows

Protect the most common entry points — lounge, kitchen and bedroom windows — where a smash is the likely way in.

Shopfronts and glass doors

Cover large panes and glass entries in a shop or office where forced entry through glass is a real risk.

Rooms a motion sensor misses

Add glass-break cover where furniture or layout leaves blind spots for a PIR.

Layered with motion detection

Run it alongside PIR detectors so you are alerted both at the glass and on movement inside.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

What's in the box

One DHI-ARD512-W2 glass-break detector with a CR123A battery and mounting hardware. A Dahua AirShield hub is required and not included.

02

Installation requirements

Mount it on a wall or ceiling within about 9 metres of the glass, with a clear path to the windows and away from noise sources that could mask a break. Enrol it to your AirShield hub in the DMSS app, run the test mode to confirm a good two-way signal, then test a glass-break before relying on it.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DHI-ARD512-W2

Q.01

Does the ARD512-W2 work on its own?

No. It is a detector for the Dahua AirShield system and needs an AirShield hub to work. Enrolled to a hub it listens for breaking glass and triggers the alarm; on its own it has nothing to report to.
Q.02

How does it avoid false alarms from everyday noise?

It listens for the low-frequency thud and the high-frequency shatter of glass at the same time and uses an algorithm to confirm both before it alarms. That two-stage check is what separates a genuine break from a dropped pan, music or a slammed door.
Q.03

How far from the window should I mount it?

Within about 9 metres of the glass you want to protect, with a clear line of sound to it. One detector can cover several windows in the same room as long as they are inside that range and not blocked by heavy curtains or partitions.
Q.04

Which types of glass does it detect?

Tempered, double-glazed, laminated, wired, plate and float glass, in thicknesses from about 2.4 mm to 6.4 mm. That covers the great majority of household and commercial windows and glass doors.
Q.05

Can I connect wired detectors to it?

Yes. It has two wired alarm inputs, so you can bring a couple of existing third-party wired detectors onto this point and have them report through the AirShield system.
Q.06

How long does the battery last and can I replace it?

It runs on a single CR123A battery for around three years and gives a low-battery warning before it runs out. CR123A is a standard, widely available cell that you can change yourself.
Q.07

What happens if someone tampers with it?

It has a built-in tamper alarm that triggers if the detector is opened or pulled off the wall, so it cannot be quietly disabled without setting off the alarm.
Q.08

Is this genuine Australian Dahua stock?

Yes. It is the 868 MHz AirShield glass-break detector supplied as genuine Australian Dahua stock with local 3-year warranty and support, matching the AirShield hubs and peripherals sold here.
