§ 01Overview

What the DS-9664NI-M8 is

The Hikvision DS-9664NI-M8 is a 64-channel M-Series recorder for large sites that need a high camera count, high resolution and resilient storage on one unit.

It records up to 64 IP cameras at resolutions as high as 32MP, with 400 Mbps of both incoming and outgoing bandwidth, so it suits a busy estate of high-megapixel cameras spread across a building or campus.

Storage is its strength.

Eight SATA bays each take a surveillance drive up to 16TB, and the recorder supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 and N+M hot spare, so you can trade some capacity for redundancy and keep recording even if a drive fails.

An eSATA port adds further expansion.

It works with Hikvision's special cameras too, including people counting, ANPR (number-plate) and fisheye models, and drives dual HDMI (up to 8K) and dual VGA outputs for a multi-screen monitoring position.

Two things to plan for.

It has no built-in PoE, so every camera connects through your own managed network switches — the usual arrangement on a 64-channel system.

And it is supplied without drives, so add surveillance storage to suit your retention.

The chassis is a 2U rack unit.

It is genuine Australian Hikvision stock with local warranty and support, viewed remotely on the free Hik-Connect app.

FeatureDetail

§ 04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the DS-9664NI-M8

Built for 64 cameras

Sixty-four channels and 400 Mbps of bandwidth handle a large, high-resolution camera estate on a single recorder rather than several smaller units.

Resilient RAID storage

Eight bays with RAID 0/1/5/6/10 and hot spare keep recording through a drive failure, which matters where lost footage is costly.

Multi-screen control

Dual HDMI up to 8K and dual VGA outputs suit a staffed monitoring room spreading cameras across several screens.

Works with smart cameras

Support for ANPR, people-counting and fisheye cameras lets you add analytics where a site needs more than plain recording.

§ 05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Large commercial sites

Centralise up to 64 cameras across a building, warehouse or yard on one recorder with resilient RAID storage.

Multi-building and campus

Aggregate cameras from many switches and buildings into a single 64-channel unit fed over the network.

High-resolution estates

Run high-megapixel cameras up to 32MP with the bandwidth and storage headroom a smaller NVR cannot offer.

Sites needing long retention

Fill eight bays with high-capacity drives, with RAID redundancy, for weeks of recording across many channels.

§ 06Setup

Installation & setup

01

What's in the box

One DS-9664NI-M8 2U recorder, power lead and mouse. Hard drives, network switches, cameras and monitors are not included.

02

Installation requirements

Fit surveillance-grade SATA drives across the eight bays to suit your retention and RAID plan, connect cameras through managed PoE switches on the network (the recorder has no built-in PoE), then connect monitors over HDMI/VGA and the network for remote access and add it to Hik-Connect. A UPS is strongly recommended on a system this size, and professional installation is advised.

§ 07Questions

Frequently asked about the DS-9664NI-M8

Q.01

Does the DS-9664NI-M8 come with hard drives?

No. It is supplied as a bare recorder so you can plan capacity to suit the site. It has eight SATA bays, each taking a surveillance-grade drive up to 16TB, plus an eSATA port, so fit drives before you expect it to record.
Q.02

Does this NVR have built-in PoE ports?

No. The DS-9664NI-M8 has no built-in PoE, so cameras connect through your own managed network switches. That is normal on a 64-channel system where cameras are spread across a building or several buildings and powered by separate PoE switches sized to your camera count.
Q.03

How many cameras and what resolution can it handle?

It records up to 64 IP channels at resolutions up to 32MP, with 400 Mbps of incoming bandwidth and 400 Mbps outgoing. That gives plenty of headroom for a large estate of high-megapixel cameras.
Q.04

What RAID levels does it support?

It supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 and N+M hot spare across its eight bays. RAID 5 or 6 lets the system keep recording through a single (or with RAID 6, a double) drive failure, which matters on a system this size where losing footage is costly.
Q.05

How many screens can it drive?

It has dual HDMI and dual VGA outputs, with HDMI supporting up to 8K or dual 4K, so you can spread 64 channels across several monitors at a staffed monitoring position rather than crowding one screen.
Q.06

What switches do I need for the cameras?

Use managed or unmanaged PoE switches sized for your cameras, then connect those switches to the recorder over the network. Plan the total switch PoE budget for the number and type of cameras, the same way you would for any recorder without built-in PoE.
Q.07

Can I view it on my phone?

Yes. Connect the NVR to your network and add it to the free Hik-Connect app to watch live and play back recordings from a phone or tablet, at home or away.
Q.08

Will it work with non-Hikvision cameras?

It is built for Hikvision and ONVIF IP cameras. Hikvision cameras give full feature support including special models such as ANPR, people counting and fisheye, while many third-party ONVIF cameras connect for recording, though some smart features may not be available.

§ 09Bundles

Recommended packages

01

Add hard drives (required)

The recorder ships without storage — fit the bays with surveillance drives such as 8TB, 10TB or 6TB units, sized to your retention and RAID plan.

03

Need even more storage?

For the same 64 channels with a sixteen-bay chassis, compare the DS-9664NI-M16.
