The Hikvision DS-9632NI-M8 is a 32-channel M-Series recorder for larger commercial sites where cameras are already powered by managed network switches rather than the recorder.

It records up to 32 IP cameras at resolutions as high as 32MP, with 320 Mbps of incoming bandwidth and 400 Mbps outgoing, so it handles a substantial estate of high-megapixel cameras.

Like its 64-channel sibling it is built around resilient storage: eight SATA bays each take a surveillance drive up to 16TB, with RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 and N+M hot spare so the system can keep recording through a drive failure, plus an eSATA port for expansion.

It works with Hikvision's special cameras including people counting, ANPR and fisheye, and drives dual HDMI (up to 8K) and dual VGA outputs for a multi-screen monitoring layout.

Two things to plan for.

It has no built-in PoE, so every camera connects through your own network switches — the usual arrangement where cameras are spread across a site, communications rooms or fibre links.

And it is supplied without drives, so add surveillance storage to suit your retention.

One DS-9632NI-M8 2U recorder, power lead and mouse. Hard drives, network switches, cameras and monitors are not included.

Installation requirements

Fit surveillance-grade SATA drives across the eight bays to suit your retention and RAID plan, connect cameras through managed PoE switches on the network (the recorder has no built-in PoE), then connect monitors over HDMI/VGA and the network for remote access and add it to Hik-Connect. A UPS is recommended on a system this size, and professional installation is advised.

No. It is supplied without drives so you can plan capacity to suit the site. It has eight SATA bays, each taking a surveillance-grade drive up to 16TB, plus an eSATA port, so fit drives before you expect it to record.

No. The DS-9632NI-M8 has no built-in PoE, so cameras connect through your own managed network switches.
