01Overview
What the DS936 is
The Bosch DS936 is the discreet way to watch a room from above. At 3.05 cm deep and 11.7 cm across it sits almost flush on the ceiling, and from there its pointable Fresnel lens covers a 360° x 7.5 m pattern, with the coverage diameter roughly twice the mounting height, so a 2 m to 3.6 m ceiling gives a circle sized to a typical office, reception or living room.
It is a passive infrared detector with alternate polarity pulse count and enhanced signal processing that the installer sets to standard, intermediate or high, and the lens can be rotated ±15° inside the sealed chamber to aim the pattern without moving the housing. An external alarm LED shows detection, and internal noise voltage test pins let a technician check the pattern and background disturbance with a standard analogue meter or the TC6000 test cord.
Wiring is conventional. The alarm output is a normally-closed reed relay rated 3.0 W, 125 mA at 28 VDC for resistive loads and protected by a 4.7 Ω resistor in the common leg, with a separate normally-closed cover tamper on its own terminals. It runs from 10 VDC to 15 VDC and draws 20 mA at 12 VDC.
It is a single-technology PIR with no microwave section, no pet immunity and no outdoor rating, and it mounts only on a ceiling, surface or semi-flush, or on a standard 10 cm octagonal electrical box. It is not the detector for a room where animals roam while the system is armed, nor for a space larger than its 7.5 m pattern.
The enclosure is high impact ABS plastic, the operating range is -29°C to +49°C, RFI immunity holds from 26 MHz to 950 MHz at 50 V/m, and the detector complies with EN50131-1 Grade 2 and UL 639.

Aim it after it is up
The Fresnel lens rotates ±15° inside the sealed chamber, so the pattern can be turned towards the doorway or away from a heater without moving the housing. The sealed chamber also keeps dust out of the optics.

What's in the box
The Bosch DS936 arrives as the detector itself in its ABS enclosure. The panel, the field cable, the end-of-line resistors and the optional TC6000 test cord are separate; Solution 2000 and 3000 panels supply end-of-line resistors in their hardware pack.

Where to mount it
Mount it on the ceiling between 2 m and 3.6 m, surface or semi-flush, or on a standard 10 cm (4 in.) octagonal electrical box, at the centre of the area to be watched. Remember the coverage diameter is roughly twice the mounting height, so a higher ceiling gives a wider circle, up to the 7.5 m pattern.

Cable and end-of-line
Run one cable from the panel to the ceiling point carrying the 10 VDC to 15 VDC supply, the normally-closed alarm relay and the normally-closed tamper loop, and keep the run within the length the chosen panel allows for a detector zone. On a Solution 6000 a shorted zone loop is treated as a tamper under every end-of-line configuration.
