01Overview

What the NVR-232MH-K-16P is

The HiLook NVR-232MH-K-16P is a 32-channel recorder for larger homes and small-to-medium business sites that want a high camera count at a value price. Sixteen of its channels have built-in PoE, so up to sixteen cameras power and connect over a single network cable each without a separate switch, while the remaining channels take cameras from your network. It records cameras at resolutions up to 12MP with 256 Mbps of incoming bandwidth.

It uses efficient H.265+ compression to stretch storage and bandwidth, outputs 4K over HDMI alongside a VGA feed, and includes smart detection — motion, line crossing and intrusion — to focus alerts on real activity. Two SATA bays each take a surveillance drive up to 10TB, so you can fit substantial storage for a 32-channel system. You view and manage it remotely through Hik-Connect.

Two things to know: it is supplied without a hard drive, so add at least one surveillance drive before you expect it to record; and although the recorder takes up to 32 channels, only sixteen have built-in PoE, so cameras beyond the sixteen PoE ports connect through a separate switch. It is a compact 1U unit, genuine Australian stock with local warranty and support.

04Why choose this

Built for the way you actually use the NVR-232MH-K-16P

High channel count, value price

Thirty-two channels with sixteen built-in PoE ports cover a large system without the cost of a Pro-series recorder.

Sixteen cameras powered directly

Sixteen PoE ports run cameras over single cables with no separate switch, and extra channels add more through your network.

Efficient storage

H.265+ compression and two bays up to 10TB each give long retention across many channels.

Simple to run

4K HDMI output, plug-and-play camera setup and remote viewing on Hik-Connect make it straightforward to live with.

05Where it fits

Right at home in these scenarios

Larger homes and acreage

Cover a big property with up to sixteen PoE cameras now and room for more channels later.

Small to medium business

Run cameras across entries, floors, car parks and stock areas, with sixteen powered straight from the recorder.

Multi-area sites

Bring cameras from several areas back to one 32-channel recorder, mixing PoE-port and switch-fed cameras.

Staged rollouts

Start with a handful of PoE cameras and grow toward 32 channels, adding drives as the system expands.

Installation & setup

  1. What's in the box

One HiLook NVR-232MH-K-16P recorder, power supply and mouse. Hard drives, cameras, network cable and a monitor are not included — add at least one surveillance drive before use.

  2. Installation requirements

Fit one or two surveillance-grade SATA drives (up to 10TB each), run Cat5e or Cat6 from the sixteen PoE ports to those cameras (within about 100 m) and connect any further cameras through a network switch, then connect the NVR to a monitor by HDMI and to your router for remote access and add it to Hik-Connect.

08Questions

Frequently asked about the NVR-232MH-K-16P

Q.01

Does the NVR-232MH-K-16P come with a hard drive?
No. It is supplied as a bare recorder so you can size storage to your system. It has two SATA bays, each taking a surveillance-grade drive up to 10TB, so fit at least one drive before you expect it to record.
Q.02

How many cameras can it run and how are they powered?
It records up to 32 IP cameras. Sixteen channels have built-in PoE, so up to sixteen cameras power and connect directly over one cable each; cameras beyond that connect through a separate network switch.
Q.03

What resolution does it record?
It records IP cameras up to 12MP and outputs to a monitor at up to 4K over HDMI, with a VGA output for a second screen. The product title lists 8MP, but the recorder supports recording at up to 12MP.
Q.04

Why does it have 32 channels but only 16 PoE ports?
The sixteen PoE ports power up to sixteen cameras directly from the recorder. The extra channels let you add more cameras through your own network switches, which is normal on a larger system where some cameras are fed from separate switches across the site.
Q.05

Does it have smart detection?
Yes. It supports motion detection, line crossing and intrusion detection, so you can set alerts on movement across a boundary or into an area rather than on every bit of motion. Detection features available depend on the cameras you pair with it.
Q.06

How much storage can it hold?
It has two SATA bays, each taking a surveillance-grade drive up to 10TB, for up to 20TB in total. Pair the capacity with H.265+ compression to get long retention across a 32-channel system.
Q.07

Can I view it on my phone?
Yes. Connect the NVR to your router and add it to Hik-Connect to watch live and play back recordings from a phone or tablet, at home or away.
Q.08

Will it work with non-HiLook cameras?
It is built for HiLook and Hikvision IP cameras and supports ONVIF, so many third-party ONVIF cameras will connect for recording, though some smart features depend on using compatible cameras.
