The DS-2CD2387G3-LIS2UY/SL is the flagship of Hikvision's 8MP ColorVu turret range, the G3 generation the channel calls ColorVu 3.0, and the camera in our 4, 6, 8 and 10 camera 4K ColorVu kits.

It does the two things night cameras usually trade off: full-colour 4K footage (3840 by 2160) down to 0.0005 lux through an F1.0 lens, and an active response.

Cross a line or zone and it fires its strobe and an audible warning through the strongest speaker in the family, lab-rated at 110dB at 10cm.

Smart Hybrid Light gives three night strategies from one camera: white light for 24/7 colour, infrared for discretion, or smart mode that holds infrared until a person or vehicle is detected and captures the event in colour.

Arrayed dual microphones and the speaker give genuine two-way talk through Hik-Connect, EIS smooths wind shake, and the housing is NEMA 4X anti-corrosion rated, the one to mount within salt air of the coast.

The honest catch is power: full output draws up to 17W, which needs an 802.3at (PoE+) port.

Our M-series kit NVRs supply af and at, but check third-party switches.

On a standard-PoE-only setup, the G2H-LISU/SL keeps the strobe and warnings at 10.5W.

Identification runs to about 8 metres with the 2.8mm lens or 10 metres with the 4mm.

Installation Requirements

1. Power: any 802.3at PoE+ NVR port or switch (max 17W). A separate 12V DC adapter is only needed without PoE. 2. Network: a wired Ethernet run back to your NVR or switch, PoE carries power and video together on the same line. 3. Mounting: solid wall, ceiling or eave at 2.5 to 3 metres, with the base sealed against the surface, the housing is IP67-rated for exposed positions.

App Setup

1. Activate the camera with a strong password on first connection, then add it to the Hik-Connect app via QR code. 2. Enable push notifications so human and vehicle alerts reach your phone, and pick your lighting mode (white, infrared or smart). 2b. Pick the warning tone or record your own message, and schedule strobe and audio so deterrence sleeps when you do. 3. Draw line crossing and intrusion zones tight to your own property through the camera's web interface, with target type set to human and vehicle.

How do the strobe and warning actually work?
When a person or vehicle crosses a line or zone you have drawn, the camera fires its strobe and plays an audible warning, a siren tone or a spoken message, through the built-in speaker. The deep-learning classification decides what triggers it, so headlights and animals do not set it off.
Q.02

Can I stop the white light coming on every night?
Yes. Set the supplement light mode to infrared for invisible night vision, or to smart so the white light only fires when a person or vehicle is detected, and set the Day/Night switch to Auto. In plain white-light mode the light is meant to stay on after dark, as that is how the colour happens, so switch modes rather than expecting it off in that setting.

Can I choose infrared instead of the white light?
Yes. Smart Hybrid Light gives three modes: white light for 24/7 full-colour, infrared for discreet black-and-white night vision, or smart mode that holds infrared until a person or vehicle is detected, then switches the white light on and captures the event in colour.

Will the white light annoy the neighbours?
It can if it points at them, as a 30-metre white floodlight is part of how ColorVu makes colour at night. Aim the camera into your own property, use smart mode so the light only fires on real detections, or run infrared mode where any visible light is unwelcome.

Do I really need PoE+ for this camera?
For full output, yes: up to 17W (802.3at Class 4) exceeds standard 802.3af budgets. The M-series NVRs in our kits supply af and at on their PoE ports; on a third-party switch, check the port rating or use a 12V DC supply. It is the white light, strobe and speaker together that push the peak.

Is the 110dB speaker claim real?
It is Hikvision's laboratory rating measured at 10 centimetres from the speaker, so at property distances it is loud and attention-getting rather than painful. It is the strongest speaker in the 2387 range; treat the number as a bench figure, not what the street hears.

How far can it see at night?
In colour, down to 0.0005 lux through the F1.0 lens with the white light reaching 30 metres; in infrared mode the range is the same 30 metres in black and white. Identification runs to about 8 metres with the 2.8mm lens or 10 metres with the 4mm.

Which lens should I pick, 2.8mm or 4mm?
The 2.8mm covers 108.8 degrees horizontally and identifies faces to about 8 metres, right for porches, entries and close driveways. The 4mm narrows to 93.3 degrees but stretches identification to 10 metres, the better pick for a front gate or a longer approach. Neither lens is motorised, so choose by your mounting position.

What does NEMA 4X actually mean?
It is an anti-corrosion rating on top of the usual IP67, so the housing is tested against salt-laden air and washdown. Hikvision classifies this model as moderate-protection grade, right for coastal suburbs about 2 kilometres from the shoreline, a step below the chemical-plant tier.

How does the G3 compare with the older G2 ColorVu?
The G3 adds 4K resolution, HikAI-ISP processing, arrayed dual microphones and a louder speaker over the previous G2 ColorVu. The earlier G2 used a slightly larger sensor, but for most sites the G3's extra resolution, audio and processing make it the better buy.

How does the human and vehicle detection work?
Deep learning on the camera classifies what triggered an event as a person, a vehicle, or neither, so a possum, rain or moving branches stay off your phone. Line crossing, intrusion and region entry and exit zones each trigger only on the target types you choose.

Can I talk through the camera from my phone?
Yes. The arrayed dual microphones and the speaker give genuine two-way talk through the Hik-Connect app: hear what is happening in better fidelity than single-mic models, and speak to whoever is there, live.

Which NVR do I need for this camera?
Any current Hikvision PoE NVR records it, and because the human and vehicle classification runs in the camera itself, smart filtering and the strobe and audio linkage work on the M-series recorders we build our 8MP ColorVu kits on, such as the DS-7608NI-M2/8P. Update the NVR firmware before adding the camera.

Will it work with a non-Hikvision NVR?
Yes. It is ONVIF conformant (Profile S, G and T), so you keep video and motion events on a third-party recorder. The smoothest experience with smart filtering, two-way audio and the Hik-Connect app stays within the Hikvision ecosystem.

Can I use this camera without an NVR?
You can. It takes a MicroSD card up to 512GB (not included) and streams to the Hik-Connect app. Most buyers still pair it with an NVR for longer retention, every camera on one timeline and easier playback; treat the SD slot as backup.

Is a Hikvision camera safe to use in Australia?
Hikvision equipment was removed from federal government sites in 2023 as a precaution, and there is no restriction on private or business use. This camera does not need a cloud account: it records to your NVR, works fully offline, and supports HTTPS, TLS and 802.1X authentication. If you want zero outbound traffic, put the system on an isolated network and it still records locally.

Same ColorVu features, deterrence and AI, at a higher resolution. The 2387 records 4K (3840 by 2160) on a 1/1.8-inch sensor for more detail across a wide scene; the 6MP 2367 G3 is the value step down where 4K storage is not wanted. Night colour, lighting modes and identification distances are otherwise the same.

The camera carries a 3-year warranty covering defects. Buy through an authorised ANZ channel so the warranty is honoured locally. Installation labour is not covered.
