What the DS-2CD2386G2-ISU/SL is

This Hikvision 8 MP 16-channel kit puts active deterrence on a larger property, with plenty of room to grow.

It brings together eight DS-2CD2386G2-ISU/SL Live-Guard turret cameras, a 16-channel Hikvision PoE NVR and a 4 TB surveillance hard drive already fitted.

Each camera runs on a single network cable to a built-in PoE port, the recorder captures all eight channels from the start, and because it has 16 channels there are eight spare for adding cameras later.

What makes these cameras stand out is how they respond to an intruder.

When AcuSense detects a person or vehicle in a protected area, the camera can flash its built-in strobe light and play an audible warning, and through the built-in microphone and speaker you can speak to whoever is there using two-way audio from your phone.

AcuSense deep learning classifies human and vehicle targets, which Hikvision rates as cutting false alarms by up to around 95 per cent, so the deterrence fires on real threats rather than weather or animals.

Each camera is an 8 MP (4K) turret with 120 dB wide dynamic range for detail against backlight.

A few honest notes so it is set up correctly.

At night these are infrared cameras with a 30 metre range, so the standard night image is black and white; the white strobe is a deterrence flash, not continuous full-colour ColorVu lighting.

The metal bodies are IP67 rated for outdoor mounting.

The 4 TB drive is included as standard, H.265+ compression keeps storage efficient, and with eight cameras on a 16-channel recorder there is straightforward room to expand.

Installation & setup

In the box

Eight DS-2CD2386G2-ISU/SL turret cameras, the 16-channel PoE NVR with a 4 TB drive fitted, power supply and mounting accessories. Connect a monitor for local viewing.

Cabling

Run one network cable from each camera to a PoE port on the NVR. Standard Ethernet runs apply, and a PoE switch can extend reach or add ports for the spare channels.

Mounting

Fix each turret to a wall or eave covering an entrance, driveway or open area within the 30 metre infrared range, and aim using the three-axis turret movement.

Setup

Connect the NVR to a screen and the network, add the cameras on the plug-and-play PoE ports, set the AcuSense rules and the strobe, audio warning and recording schedule, and set up two-way audio and remote viewing in the Hik-Connect app.

How does the active deterrence actually work?
When a camera's AcuSense detects a person or vehicle in an area you have set, it can automatically flash its strobe light and play an audible warning to scare the intruder off before anything happens. You can also trigger it manually, or speak through the built-in speaker, from the Hik-Connect app on your phone.

Can I talk to someone through the cameras?
Yes. Each camera has a built-in microphone and speaker for two-way audio, so you can listen and speak to a visitor or intruder from the app or the recorder, using a live or pre-recorded warning. Confirm that recording audio is permitted for your site before enabling it.

Why a 16-channel recorder with only eight cameras?
It gives you room to grow. The kit uses eight of the 16 channels, so you have eight spare PoE ports and channels to add cameras as the property or business expands, without replacing the recorder. That makes it a good base for larger sites.

Is everything included to get recording straight away?
Yes. The kit includes the eight 8 MP Live-Guard cameras, the 16-channel PoE NVR and a 4 TB surveillance hard drive already fitted, so each camera connects on one cable and the recorder captures all eight channels. Add a screen or use the mobile app to view.

Do the cameras record in colour at night?
The standard night image is infrared black and white to about 30 metres. The white light on these cameras is a strobe used to deter intruders, not a continuous ColorVu light, so for full-colour footage all night you would choose a ColorVu kit. The strobe and warning are the deterrence feature here.

What does AcuSense do?
AcuSense uses on-camera deep learning to classify human and vehicle targets and ignore movement such as rain, leaves or animals.
